Dear Sirs,
I would be grateful if you would cancel my subscription to the Daily Telegraph (personal offer code xxxxxxxxxx) – the vouchers remaining in my possession are valid until the 2nd February 2009, but you may be assured I will not be using them after today and I am cancelling my direct debit with immediate effect.
If you wish to know why I am doing this it is because I have just read Michael Henderson's article entitled "Send in the clowns - it's another episode in the sad saga of Manchester City". I have been a supporter of the football club for many years and I am disgusted that the management of the only newspaper I have taken regularly has seen fit to publish the most spiteful journalistic attack I have ever had the misfortune to read. The club's officials and fans do not deserve it and I will be quite surprised if there is no response from the club to this astonishing welter of puerile and unfounded abuse.
The only thing that would tempt me back is the cessation of Henderson's employment with you.
Yours etc.
Michael Henderson (born 1959) is a British journalist, born in Manchester, raised in Bolton and educated at a preparatory school in Derbyshire and then at Repton School. Originally purely a sportswriter, he has since diversified into a wider range of cultural journalism.
He began his career writing for various local newspapers, initially covering Rochdale F.C.. Later, he graduated to The Times, where he reported extensively on both cricket and football. In 1999 he moved to The Daily Telegraph as cricket correspondent, before joining the Daily Mail as a general sportswriter in 2002.
He is now a freelance. He has contributed sporting and general commentary to The Daily Telegraph, and for some time had a sports column on Thursdays and a more general column on Saturdays, but he ceased to regularly contribute to the Telegraph in April 2008. He has continued to contribute occasionally to the other papers he previously worked for, as well as The Wisden Cricketer and The Spectator.
Henderson has also freelanced for The Guardian and The Observer.
