Ex players with non football careers.

Think he also had the Hyde Road Hotel for a while
You're right, George Heslop had it in the 80's. It was renamed "The City Gates" at the time. The story goes that City were formed there at a meeting in the pub/hotel from the old Ardwick FC. The team used to change there before games up until they moved to Maine Road. I only went in there once. It was a family Do, think the whole place was hired out. I remember George picking a young lad up to show him photos on the wall from his playing days. The lad said "You've got more hair now than when you played for City".... George was sporting a terrible wig at the time. Also, Steve Kinsey was on the Do, I've no idea why.

At the last City film show at the Dancehouse Theatre on Oxford Road a couple of years ago, @Gary James showed some footage from a documentary about City filmed by students from Salford University for BBC North West. This was from 1977 and so would have preceded Granada’s City! film by a few years.
It included footage of Peter Swales sitting down in his office with Dave Watson to discuss his contract and what he was being paid.
No word of a lie, Swales suggested to our England international centre half that if he wanted more money, he was free to go out and get himself a part-time job on the side.
I don’t think anyone present had ever seen this footage before and the place was in uproar, everyone in tears of laughter at Swales’ petty, tinpot, small time chiselling.
It summed that man up perfectly. As did his decision to be interviewed in front of a portrait of himself

Only in Peter Swales mind could that happen YCMIU

I was inducting some screed layers on site about 7 years ago and one of them was Tony Vaughn. Said he was doing it to keep busy/fit and liked the banter etc. Nice lad, had a brew and a chat in my office for an hour whilst the other lads were grafting away! Steve Redmond delivered for Travis Perkins to a job I was running in huyton about 12 years ago. Top lad who only had good things to say about us. Currently got a brickie on site who played for Blackburn late 60s into the 70s Dave O’Neil. Some good tales off him the last few weeks. He played a reserve game at Newcastle once and in the changing room was a milk churn left by the staff for half time drink. It was full of brown ale!
