I can most definitely argue that RSC - average number of league appearances 23 per season over 10 years - is not worth £17m, regardless of his ability.

the season ahead will tell whether that is true or not!

Correct - no one can say his Future appearances are capped. There is a risk to the signing that must be accepted - but somewhat reduced by City's unique knowledge of the player, and the medical.

I think our owners are paying inflated prices for the right reasons.they want us not only in the top 4 but they also want trophy;s on the table,not in a few years,but NOW.It makes sense,I recon the wages if anything will start to come down and I can see in 4 years we will have 6 or 7 players coming to the end of there contract on the sort of money no other club in the world can match,at that time we will have blown every English team out of the water for trophy;s.Now comes the bit where we replace these player,and that will be easy.your Kaka,Messi type players will be knocking at our door,we will not need to double the best of the other teams offers,just match them,at the same time our youth policy will be paying dividens,and the best of the lower leagues will dream of playing for Manchester city.to put it another way, we will be a quality magnet.Yes we will grow another 30,000 fans from somewhere,something some of our fans won;t like,thats why it;s important to try and sell our club to the kids in Manchester.It is also as important to improve our atmosphere to such a point that we become well known for it.That sends out a mesage to "new" fans.It tells THEM what we expect from them.Its a new world for us now ,lets make the most of it.

How can the wages come down? Do you think if we make champions league with Eto'o signed on 320,000 per week Messi will be knocking on our door saying sign me but for less wages than Eto'o please! Once you hike up the wages every top player will want the same and they will only fall if you need to have a fire sale a'la Leeds United and relegation will becon! You want a sustained team to challenge for years to come? Then you have to be sensible NOW not next year.

In the interest of balance ;-) all players will be more expensive in the Jan transfer window as a)teams don't want to get rid and b)Jan buys tend to be only those that are desperately needed.

I agree I was shocked by what we have been reported as having paid for Barry, a great bit of business, but 17m for RSC is a shocker....(500,000 for every goal he scored while he was at Blackburn in profit).

Let,s not be silly now.....what about other attributes to his game....holding ball up/bringing other players into the game/aerial threat........to equate his ability on goals alone is a schoolboy mentality......and a bit silly................

Actually, his goal scoring rate was quite good at Blackburn, it's the 14.5m profit that they are making that precludes it being classed as "excellent business" at this point.

find any decent striker for less than 15m nowadays.........go on, i dare ya...........

Funny thread when it becomes excellent business to pay 7m too much for a player just because someone once thought that we would be be prepared to pay 15m too much for him.
