Expats slagging on Britain

It may be that we can compare the two (having lived in both), and find Britain lacking in so many areas.

You trawl this out regularly. I've lived in several countries, including Australia. Contextually things are different. When I lived in Denmark you had a brilliant welfare system and a trust in politicians to make the right decisions. But it is a lot easier when you are only dealing with circa 5 million people. Scandinavia is having problems with welfare in that the social rights have gone too far, but I would still say they are fantastic countries - although the weather is maybe where they lack unless you like it cold.

Australia similarly has a small population in a huge country. It has a high amount of mineral wealth (that it is selling off to overseas investors) and I find it funny how you can constantly claim it to be miles better than Britain despite the fact that it was the British that made it what it is. There is no history to Australia other than the Aboriginal who is left on the street with a box of wine. There is an ever increasing love of American culture, and the Australian teenager is perhaps the most cuntish person on the planet - with their love of everything gangster despite coming from wealthy suburbs. The weather is good generally, although heatwaves and flooding occur in parts. The animals can kill you (doesn't bother me, but some don't want to live in a place like that). You love Australia but I find it nonsense to slate Britain when the fact is Australia has grown from the implementation of British ideas on healthcare and general welfare but has not had the same population constraints that have tested the functions of those systems.

You like Australia more than Britain then well done. But the fact you are on Bluemoon day in day out and still follow Manchester City shows that culturally Australia hasn't fulfilled your needs and that you still rely on the British humour, sport and interests each and every day.

1. I think you will find that Australians and migrants from all corners of the world made Australia what it is.

2. The Aboriginal "problem" has had hundreds, if not billions of dollars thrown at it. It is a very complex problem, as it is with "Natives" of all colonised Countries, and guess who colonised them and started the problem?

3. The love of American culture is no different than many Western countries.

4. Aussies teenagers are no different than teenagers from the UK, i would say much better behaved than them.

5. I come on Bluemoon every day because of my love for City and the humour yes, but do you think i, and other expats, should cut all ties with the country we were born and raised in and also still have family in?

I don't see why you are getting so uppitty, a thread on expats gets response's from expats, shocker.

I have spent a fair bit of time in Sweden, and love the place and people, but the weather is not for me in Winter.

4. Aussies teenagers are no different than teenagers from the UK, i would say much better behaved than them.

And therein lies the entire problem.

You don't know many British teenagers, you just have vague recollections of what may or may not happen and newspaper reports.

Your memory and media are not reflective of this country any more than Crocodile Dundee represents you.

They do it to make themselves feel better, because deep down they miss the bones out of blighty.

Australia could be a wonderful country, but it is inhabited by braindead morons with no work ethic or culture. If it was so great, then why do they spend so much time on British forums or facebooking more than anyone in the UK? Coz they are hurting deep down.

The sting in the tail is this. They move all the way to the otherside of the world to give their kids a better life. Fair enough. But then what do the kids go and do when they grow up??? They move back to England!!! So you're all the way over there, stuck with an ageing wife nagging you half to death! No kids, no family, no City...and skin cancer!

Sounds like someone got turned down for a visa.

-- Fri May 02, 2014 9:23 am --

I moved here 18 months ago, I have teenage kids and can compare both and he's correct on that point.

This country is a shit hole, full of shit the place is a joke. I agree when expats slag us off. I grew up loving Great Britain, now as you get older you understand that its a joke.

Not really. When you get older in life you start thinking about how things were better when you were younger. This has happened to every single generation of society since before the Ancient Greeks and isn't anything more than rose tinted glasses and selective memory leading to confirmation bias.

Your parents will tell you that things were shit when you were a kid and nothing like it was before too.

-- Fri May 02, 2014 10:24 am --

So you think your teenagers are reflective of an entire population of the UK and the people you've known in the pas 18 months are reflective of an entire population of Australia?

Because that's just straight up arrogant.

All of my family are still in the UK (apart from 1 nephew, who is in Queensland) and there are plenty of teenagers in my family.

I also come back from time to time, to visit said family, and have seen the scowling scrotes that infest the areas my family live in, with my own eyes.

I said he's correct on the point that teenage kids are better behaved here than in the UK, from what I've experienced, having lived in both countries recently.

You're still missing the point. Let's say you met 20 people. In fact let's stretch it and say 100 teenagers.

You've decided, just by looking at people, that you know all about their behaviour and compare it to Australian teenagers. That's dumb straight away.

But then you've gone even further and claimed that you can compare ALL or at least a majority of the millions of teenagers in the UK with ALL or at least a majority of the millions of teenagers in Australia based on looking at a few people or maybe a conversation.

That crosses into the realm of stupid. Your sample size is nothing but "you just know"

If you don't like it here, then either fuck off somewhere else and stop moaning, or stay and try to improve things - I don't frankly care which.
I'm happy for those blues such as pominoz who have upped sticks and made a better life for themselves, because it is a courageous act that takes balls.
Not only that, but he has kept a sense of proportion and perspective, unlike a few others who seem to take every opportunity to gloat and shit stir, then moan like fuck when someone like me bursts their little bubble of smugness.
It all comes down to personal choice, but I don't see threads from the 50,000 forumites who are fairly happy with their lot living here taking the piss out of Australia, and the handful of blues who now live there.
Maybe knocking Blighty is a sorry and rather desperate attempt by the usual suspects to reassure themselves that they made the right choice, because if they truly were that satisfied then they wouldn't need to start threads slating Britain every other week.
