Expectations

Are our expectations too high? compared to before the takeover this is like a golden age.. many of us have got spoilt with that little bit of success at winning the league, but to be one of Europe's elite clubs we need to win alot more.

It's not the end of the world when we lose a game and don't win a trophy in a season.

Our expectations are in line with the standing of the club and nothing more (for me at least). We should be fighting for all trophies we can win, expecting not to lose against newly promoted teams, playing football worth watching. It's hardly much to ask from a team who cost a more than anyone else in the entire top flight.

I expect to go to newly promoted sides without Kompers and come away with a comfortable win, three points and a substantial addition to the goal difference. 'Twill be interesting to see how the likes of MANUre and CFC do in Cardiff this season. We had the same trouble last season against Championship sides.

Another £80m spent, I'd say we should have pissed that game. We sacked Mancini for not winning the league so I'd say expectations are about where they should be

We have the best squad according to Pellegrini. It's up to him to make sure the best squad finishes above all other teams. We couldnt even fault his man management skills unlike under Mancini...

But now I really hope we avoid a bad draw in CL group stage. A group of death could be too much once again and I think there is a great pressure from Soriano and co. to progress in the CL finally.

Expectations from some on here are too high, some have been talking with such bullishness that we'll walk the league etc.

Our first team is excellent but there is a distinct drop off in quality and/or drive in the players brought in to replace them.

3 new players was never going to be able to change aspects of our game from last season. We're a work in progress and I expect us to be up there at the end of the season but I also expect games like today, unfortunately.

We can't keep spending and replacing managers if we are ultimately going to accept this kind of result. We have to buy better and expect better from the signings we make or what's the point in having the resources if we lack ambition

I think the expectation was to move on in terms of quality, playing style and trophies won....

Judging by today's performance we have actually gone backwards....in his post match interview Pellegrini was even moaning about them putting 10 men behind the ball and all but said 'they didn't play football' (the right way!).

Naive bollocks...I think he needs to wise up, and fast. I don't want another manager but he needs to learn how to set up and play in this league within the next 2 to 3 games or he will be gone IMO.

Yes and no.

Yes, we should be expecting to challenge for the league every year and go into most games expecting to win.

No, we shouldn't suddenly want to sack a successful and promising manager when the above doesn't happen

We're a spoilt fanbase at the moment. Success happened for us so quickly due to the amount of cash that Sheikh Mansour put in that we've lost all patience for even a tiny bit of failure. Everybody fails, even Barca lost games when they were the greatest football team ever and didn't win the CL every year.

We want everything now, NOW, NOW and we forget how almost every team in the entire world including some "giants" of the game would swap places with us tomorrow.

We've become incredibly self involved over the past three years, nothing is ever good enough, nothing is an acceptable deviation, everybody needs to be punished and we must make sweeping changes for every tiny setback.

It's wearying as a fan but more than that it will bring us nothing but more frustration and failure.

Ridiculous thread. With our squad and the players we have we should be beating Cardiff City, expectations do not come into it. Truth is we have been poor away from home for 3 years and still don't know how to play against teams who park 11 men in their own half , work hard defensively and invite us on to them.

expectations?......LOWER THEM!
Too soon to say

Might do the team some good. A reminder that talent means nothing if you don't have the right attitude.

I'm sure we'll win a lot of games at home providing there's still something to fight for, but away from home is a different matter

Not really, we won the FA Cup and the PL, so I will be happy till the day I die to have witnessed that.

Dismal & bs however have a lot answer for, as they were responsible for Mancini sacking ;) and I bet you dont hear from those fuckers when we lose and only when we win. Those are wierd fans

I actually think the expectations are too low for many of us. I constantly see arguments like, oh give it time, everyone loses games. Desperately trying to grasp at any straws, and bashing everyone who disagrees as haters.

With the amount of pressure, skill and money, there rarely is an excuse. It should be, and it is a harsh, almost cheating cutthroat business. That's how it works nowadays, either you hit it off more or less right away, or you are a failure and feck off. And we surely shouldn't expect anything else than success. I wish it was different, but imo it's not.

My expectations were high because look at the players we have, they are amazing and we should not be losing to teams low down the table.I also expected us to leak goals and i fear that will continue, unless everyone is on their game this higher line will be a nightmare and we will be caught out a lot.Probably a good shock result to have early on so they can work on things although the others are not losing which is not good for us.Down to earth with a bump for me

With the team we have I expect to be challenging for every trophy available.

Our away form outside the top 4 for the quality we behold is way below average though in my opinion, and if we don't win the league this season it will because of our away games.

Look at United last week, outplayed for around 40mins, incomes Van Persie with a clinical strike and Welbeck with a game finisher just before half time. They grind results out away from home while we try and play beautiful football thinking we are at home and just seem to play it around the park neglecting the need to be scrappy at times and just get the ball in the box to give our strikers chances.

If it had been Chelsea , Rags , Arse or Spuds I'd have expected them to go to Cardiff and win, The difference is they probably would have done.

We are spending 100s of millions and yet again we let a CD go who was playing well at the end of last season and don't replace him even when we have one CB injured before we kick a ball.

It's been said on these boards lots of times Without Komps our defence is a shadow of what it should be. We NEED another quality CB
