You're absolutely correct to look to our evolution when it comes to dertermining the characteristics of "mankind", its capabilities, and its likely future. You're right that fundamentally the argument of whether "mankind has the stomach to right itself" is, at its very base, an argument concerning evolution
But then again you're just stating the truism of all truisms so it gets a bit silly. Humans are a product of evolution and so everything we do can be attributed to it. Why do we exist? evolution.
