F1 2023 season

If he is motivated he will easily end up with the most world championships in the history of the sport will Verstappen.

I think Norris will end up there, George Russell was saying a few months back that it’s the worse kept secret in F1 that Norris has been talking with Red Bull.
He's miles ahead of anyone else right now. The guy in the best car normally is, mind. Hamilton was exactly the same. If he was driving those shopping trolleys carrying the Williams, Sauber and Haas badges, would he have been winning multiple World titles? Of course not. I think the challenge to MV in the future will come from the likes of George and Lando. Lewis's time is over. He should retire now, and count his money. Does he really need to put himself through the gruelling fitness regime I imagine F1 drivers have to go through? If he wants to stay involved in the sport, maybe look at getting involved in team ownership?

Tbf none. Verstappen to any F1 driver is what Pep is to any manager in the PL.

Absolutely, however Perez has made hard work if it to secure second in the drivers championship from Hamilton in the penultimate race. This season’s Redbull as a machine has to be the most dominant F1 car ever built eclipsing the McLaren MP4 or the Williams with the active suspension which Nigel Mansell won the world championship in.

Qualifying on a Saturday doesn’t really matter to Redbull even with the Ferrari being quick over one lap. Verstappen dominated even with a 5 second penalty. It’s ominous what will happen for the next couple of seasons before new regulations come in on the power units in 2026.

He will get another year at Red Bull by looks of it, would be interesting to see what competition Verstappen would get if Norris or Riccardo ended up at Red Bull.
Surely if Norris knows what's good for him he won't go to Red Bull. He's good enough to win a championship and that's not going to happen if he's playing second fiddle to Verstappen. It's a tricky one though. The obvious alternative would be Mercedes when Lewis leaves but then there's Russell who isn't going to want to be a second driver.

Ferrari if LeClerc gets bored...but they're a basket case.

Weirdly Norris's best chance of success might be to stay put and see what happens when Red Bull's dominant period ends. Which it will in the next year or two, it's how F1 works.

McLaren have as good a chance as any to be the next team to go to the top and Norris is in a good position where he's supported and is clearly the no.1 guy with a teammate who's good, but not too good.

Is Mercedes going to build a world championship car in the next 5 years. It’s hard to tell and they are way behind Redbull on these regulations, McClaren seem to be extracting more from their car and are a Mercedes customer.

The cost cap is really hurting Mercedes where they could outspend other teams pre 2022, their engine which used to be such a strong part of their success doesn’t give them the advantage it used to have. They are having to learn more about downforce now than what they previously did as they didn’t have to strap as much aero on to be the quickest.

Aston Martin are showing ambition recruiting heavily from Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari to get an edge. They looked good at the beginning of the year but went backwards, they could come back next winter with another decent package though.

As long as Aston Martin is being micromanaged by a billionaire just in it for a bit of fun for his kid, they're winning fuck all.

Can Mercedes build a championship winning car in 5 years? Of course they can. I don't think that's their main concern. Lewis is probably past his peak / lost 1% of his hunger and I'm not convinced Russell is a world-beating driver, that would be my worry if I were Toto and the lads.

McLaren should build their team around Lando.

It feels like they are a natural fit. Both the car and himself are steadily improving.

During a period of driver dominance there's one season another random fucker wins it. Could well be him.
I agree. And they clearly have been / are continuing to build the team around him.

That zero side pods concept was a disaster for Mercedes and they held on for it for way too long before ripping it up and starting again. I would say they they are about two seasons on development to catch up with Red Bull, that’s with Red Bull not doing anymore upgrades on their car.

Only time we could see a shake up on the pecking order is 2026 with new regulations on the engine coming in, think it’s the MGU being removed to make the hybrid engine less complex and expenisve which is why the likes of Audi and Ford interested in being in F1. Mercedes have done well to finish 2nd with a change in concept happening during the season but can’t see them making that leap to being front runners any time soon.
