F1 Season 2021

Is there a reason that a second DRS zone couldn't be put in the tunnel? I have seen overtakes in years past in the braking zone coming up to the Nouvelle Chicane, a couple of memorable crashes too.

They’ve reclaimed a bit of the coastline further down in Monaco I wonder if they could do it with the bit of the track right on the sea front. If they moved that chicane further up and even constructed the stands on temporary platforms where all the boats are parked up they could make the track wider so you could get some side by side action going.

Problem is now the cars are way to big with the engines and batteries. Formula E provided a more interesting race a few weeks back.

Interesting. It would be nice if they could improve the racing.

Every seasoned F1 fan knows that the real action is on a Saturday at Monaco. Sure there's a few good races in the wet but otherwise it's pretty dull.

But the qualifying to me is just so stunning. Seeing the best drivers in the world drive to the absolute limits of the car on such an unusual and unforgiving track is just such a joy to watch.

Action like these epic laps from Schumacher below are worth the price of a poor race imo.

They could do with adding a bit more interest for the non Ferrari t shirt wearing casual watchers. Maybe drivers get extra points for running over rich folk, pensioners and nurses pushing wheelchair patients.

course à la mort 2022

Yawn.

Anyway, it won't be. Almost zero chance that they'll get rid of it. In fact I'd say it's the least likely to be binned off.

It's historic. It's unique. It's loved by the sport and drivers. It makes a fucking mint. It's one of the Triple Crown, alongside The Le Mans 24Hr and The Indy 500...

It's going nowhere.

Like I say, it's boring and clichéd to complain about it, but you crack on finding negatives in everything, mate.

Oh, and it's usually closer to 120 minutes. -)

Where's this come from? Does anyone actually enjoy the Monaco GP? There's a reason everyone complains about it and that doesn't mean it's a cliche. That means it's fucking dull.

They should just do a 10 lap individual time trial. That would be much more exciting. You can't overtake so it's basically qualify on pole and concentrate in order to win. My god it's one hell of a tough circuit and incredible concentration levels are required to win the race. But it's boring to watch. The drivers might like it and feel it's hard to win, but the fans don't and sport is nothing without fans remember.

There was a piece in this years qually programme where Antony Davidson was showing how much kerb different drivers took at the exit of Lowes hairpin.
I notice that Schumacher didn't touch the kerb at all. More compliant cars or more aggressive driving these days?

The kerbs were unusable on a lot of the corners back in 1996. You can see that the kerb is raised at the Loews hairpin itself and the corner after. These days they are both much flatter.

Also the cars are absolutely massive these days.

Loews! Damn, I knew as I typed it I ought to have checked my spelling. :-)

Interesting insight crooky. Bluemoon can be better than Google itself.

The size of the cars is an issue everywhere at the moment and all the extra aero they have on them makes it impossible to follow. I was watching some of the races in early 90s of Senna and Mansell recently. They would spend the entire race attached to gear box of the car in front it was that close. The rule shake up next year I hope does something, unfortunately there’s no going back with hybrid engines so we will still have cars the size of a Range Rover competing.
