F1 Thread - 2018 Season

you'd hope, there are still some more fundamental changes to make to ensure meaningful competition. I think having most of the grid beholden to Mercedes, Ferrari and Renault is a bad position to be in, although McLaren Honda didn't work (due to the technical nature of trying to build one of these engines), I want to see teams have their independence and a genuine ability/opportunity to beat each other. I'd love to see Aston Martin join, and in 2008 we had Honda, Toyota, BMW and before that Ford and the like, it would bring genuine competitive independent rivalry imo which would work in the sport's favour. Liberty realise this and are hopefully making the right steps.
I agree.
Who knows maybe Aston Martin partnering with red bull may be their way into the sport

Good point.
F1 engines are not easy to make though as evidence from Honda

I think the combustion engine is easy enough for most manufacturers, its the MGU-H that has been the killer, particularly for Honda in that they designed theirs totally differently from Merc at the beginning and its that they want rid of.

Its also a bit of a no no from fans of the sport who just want to see a big fuck off fast engine that makes noise ;-)

Lol most fans would bring back the V10s tomorrow if they had the power to do so

That plus the the current aero package would be heaven. I think the cameras would struggle to keep up with the cars

Which is exactly how it should be.

You have guys in the sport like Newey and you dumb them down?

No thanks, let them innovate and do what they do best, make immensely fast cars.
