Not getting the World Cup in 2018? Ho hum, not bothered.

Its like the "Fake Sheikh" thing with Sven in 2006, all over again. Both sides are to blame for this, the Mail obviously, and Triesman for spouting off unfounded stuff, to impress some gold-digger.

I would have liked to have been able to see the likes of Brazil or what not play at Eastlands, but at least I won't get to see some chavs being patriotic by beating up some foreign fan who supports the team that knocked out England.

Triesman is an idiot and shouldn't have said it but the mail has to take some responsibility, they have sought to boost it sales at the expense of our chances of hosting the World Cup - don't forget Europe won't be able to host another WC for 12 years after 2018.

I cant believe some idiots on here. The Mail has a duty to publish it, only in a dictatorship can the story be pushed under the carpet. I dont like the politics that the Mail rams down your throat, but how can you critisise a newspaper for going with a scope story like this, better than reading about the iceland girls new fucking painter and decorator lover.

The Daily Mail has no duty whatsoever to publish a recorded private conversation between two long-term acquaintances. There is nothing in this story that is of national interest, other than a hint of corruption in the Spanish and Russian FAs, but the Mail couldn't even be arsed to follow this bit up.

Even the News of the World turned this story down FFS.

absolutely right. that smug twat patrick collins is pontificating on this signalling the end of england's 2018 bid hopes but if the mail had told triesman's ex-bit on the side to fuck off. instead of publishing the details of the private conversation she recorded there would be no issue. hypocritical wankers of the first order. if england's bit goes down because of this it'll be down to the mail not triesman.

As someone pointed out in the comments section, the Mail had 3 options:
1). Sit on the story until we either won or lost the bid, and then reveal fears about corruption within the bidding process.
2). Thoroughly investigate the corruption claims and help England win by discrediting the Spanish and Russians.
3). Release completely unfounded allegations now and destroy our chances altogether.

It's not really surprising that a newspaper that once supported the Hitler would opt for option number 3.

Stupid to bring up the Hitler thing I hate it when people make that boring knee jerk connection. That was about 80 years ago, do you think anyone involved at the time still works for them?

Obviously not. It's just interesting that this newspaper continues to put its own interests ahead of those of the nation as a whole, even 80 years after the most famous example of it doing so.
