FA Cup | 3rd Round | 9-14 Jan '25

Lie Down FC.

Stop-start-stop football… Arsenal at the most boring English football team ever.
More like NFL games these days with Arsenal.
Ball is hardly ever in play, line outs that takes forever on every set piece. Only a matter of time before they start playing adverts during time outs and set pieces set ups.
PL and PGMOL allowing them to get away with this.

If it's deemed he had control to deliberately play the ball yes.

I personally don't like that part of the offside law though.

It was Mbappe against Spain in the Nations League that started it all and if you see that one that counted, Eric Garcia had less control than Maguire did there.
Doesn't need to be in control, just making an attempt negates the offside.

Arteta will have one of those massive headsets on and a play book

I’m not a big VAR fan but we’ve just seen from the previous game how inept the match officials are without it. I think VAR has become such a crutch for them to lean on that referees have actually got worse (if that’s possible) since its introduction.
Officiating all codes of football is incredibly difficult. Video Technology came into some of them three decades ago (in American football is was four decades ago).

Football is still decades behind when getting their video technology up to scratch. But it’s definitely required.

To be fair, in England, it needs to be a deliberate pass for it to be deemed not offside. Any deflection, whether a knick on the ball or a spoon, won’t stop the attacker being offside.

UEFA are always slightly different.

Yes, we’re actually an outlier with that against the IFAB guidance.

It’s pretty much impossible with the level of cheating and play acting. More needs to be done to call it out. Yes the refs still need to be better but it’s so difficult with the cheating.

Didn’t slabhead play him onside ?

No. It has to be deemed an intentional effort at playing the ball, which I'm not sure it was.

It looked intentional to me.

You will all notice how utterly this is in contradiction to the handball law in the penalty area, where the question of intentionality does not seem to be of any account (last minute winner against Tottenham chalked off because of “handball” against Gabriel Jesus — it brushed his bloody arm, didn't even change direction! — and innumerable other instances I could cite, oh yes, let's add Jack's “handball” against the rags in the Cup final, and don't let anyone tell me it was intentional, when you jump in to the air your arms go up, unless you a total weirdo from Mars). Oh and of course the “unnatural position” sleight-of-hand allows for all sorts of finessing and manipulation (see last cited instance).
