FA Cup 4th round draw - Palace (a)

There's something not right with this, Palace refusing to be a TV game.

If a team can turn it down does the away team have no input? I'm thinking more of the Chelsea game than this one which really fucked us over.

Surely they'd have no choice, it's also a strange thing to do turning down money.

Steve Parish doesn't think its a big deal:-

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has revealed why the Eagles won't be on television in the fourth round of the FA Cup

Crystal Palace will not be shown live on television if they make it through to the fourth round of the FA Cup – but there is a reason behind it.

The Eagles face a third round replay with Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday, with the winners going through to face Manchester City in the last 32 of the competition.

But the game will only be shown live on BBC One at 4pm on Sunday, January 29 if Bolton Wanderers are successful in making it through to the fourth round, with Manchester United's match with Wigan Athletic being shown live instead if Palace make it through.

However, Eagles chairman Steve Parish has said the club turned down the opportunity for television coverage, as it meant moving the game to the Sunday afternoon and left no time to prepare for the next game, away at Bournemouth on Tuesday, January 31 in the Premier League.

I guess it's only a big deal if the tv companies make it one.
If it's within the rules why the fuck didn't we do it last season

Could it be that Parish is simply putting a spin on the degree of influence he has exercised over this decision? Not so much refusing to let them show the game, more suggesting to a receptive audience that they shouldnt? If he's told them that they're putting out a weak team, focusing on the Bournemouth game, and the BBC were already in two minds over which game to show, he might have tipped their thinking towards showing the united game. If the BBC really wanted to show our game they would do so irrespective of what Palace or City want.

This would be my thinking to. They have already stated they won't be taking it seriously and gives them another day to prepare?

Palace are charging their fans £25 for this, so wouldn't expect it to be any less unless the club subsidises it. They only got 7,000 at their place last night and there was a lot of angry fans complaining that they were charging £25 for the next round, in addition to their current hatred towards their Chairman. Wouldn't expect this to sell out from a Palace perspective.

I remembered this cropping up a couple of years ago. I know it's about FC Rags but the principles are the same. They told the FA they didn't want their game moved to a Monday night as it would be inconvenient to their fans. The FA basically told them to do one and the competition rules dictate that they cannot opt to not be on tv. Furthermore, they were told that their was a minimum price of £10 so they couldn't charge their usual £9! So, either Parrish is making it up or the PL have further undermined the FA!

so why beat bolton last night it would have been easy to lose and have a free weekend

i feel its something more than playing a weaken team they could be cooking up a dodgy ref and without tv he could go to town on city (HOLD ON) thats been happening all season this is dirty by palace and using all the tricks in the book to unsettle us like we are playing a weaken team then turn out a full team have the pitch watered log and keep the grass long big fat sam knows the dirty tricks so don't be fooled
