Other than telling the referee about things going on the techinal area, I've never seen one do anything like that before to my knowledge, and even the bbc couldn't find a proper replay of the incident, so that we can see it.

It's the same muddled thinking that allows games in the same competition have different rules in different matches, and different "interpretations" of var which the paying fans don't ever get an explanation for.

The whole set of regulations has become so muddled now, nobody has a clue what's what.
Including the referees.

@cleavers Palmer calling out the VAR implementation inconsistency in his post-match interview as apparently Wrexham have watched his shot back (the one right after the obvious handball that was also ignored) and the ball looked to have crossed the line.
I guess that is yet another disadvantage, the higher teams have the goal line technology, I doubt they have at National League level (don't know how far down it goes tbh).

Outside penalty area so VAR can't intervene is the reason given. Even though potential red card. It's not a good reason. In fact, it seems to contradict a later review of a potential red card by Fabhino which was also outside the penalty. Probably reviewed because ref gave a yellow? Or was it the clear and obvious error caveat bollocks?. There's so many caveats, yes but, no but, because this, because that bull shit that any decision can be excused by VAR.
It contravenes their own protocol…. Shown below. They cant even get the basics right, for certain teams!!

No chance it went over the line, not even close
