Other than telling the referee about things going on the techinal area, I've never seen one do anything like that before to my knowledge, and even the bbc couldn't find a proper replay of the incident, so that we can see it.
It's the same muddled thinking that allows games in the same competition have different rules in different matches, and different "interpretations" of var which the paying fans don't ever get an explanation for.
The whole set of regulations has become so muddled now, nobody has a clue what's what.
