FA Cup 8/9/10/11 January

Peter Reid, John Bailey & Kevin Sheedy were all Reds who played in Everton’s 80s heyday. There’s more too, they’re just off the top of my head.
EDIT: Here’s a few more
The difference is that most of these don't mouth off in the media about what huge blues they are.
Reid maybe but not to the level of the ones I've mentioned do about their coach wrecking, computer hacking neighbours and you never hear a peep from the other two in the MSM.
The ones I've mentioned are some of the main go to guys reeled out in the MSM to tell the world how chuffed they are when the going is good or what they think needs to happen when it isn't going well for THEIR club.

Maybe some of our resident blues can help with that one?
I could understand the odd one but the turncoatery from Blue to Red is off the scale in that part of the world.
Rooney is a prize twat with some of his antics but he's maintained his support for his boyhood club and made sure his kids follow them even though he played for the Rags for 13 years.
If the Dippers had won fuck all over the years they would have just gone back to their roots once their careers had finished the plastic twats

Ah, you’ve got me here then - I thought you were just after Liverpool supporters who played for Everton rather than any media connection. It’s the same in any major footballing city; I’m sure there’s United fans who’ve played for you and vice versa. And there’s the fact that 99% of pro footballers don’t let their personal allegiances get in the way of their professional ones. Look at Solskjaer, boyhood Liverpool fan but the little **** didn’t mind scoring against us one bit.

Rooney hardly the best example of loyalty, fucked Everton off at the first opportunity when stole a wage from them when he was long past it. And then signed his lad up to united’s academy

As professionals you're right most do give 100% for the club that is paying their wages which is absolutely the way to behave.
I'm not naive enough to think that everyone in our first team squad is a life long blue that would play for nothing but when you see some ex players giving the impression of being lifelong fans of their city rivals when they're not it's the lowest of the low and there are quite a few of them as the MSM go to guys for quotes and opinions about your lot.
Solskjaer is another always spouting the Utd Way bollock, he's bound to at the moment but it will be interesting to see if we hear from him once he is inevitably sacked.
Rooney for one could easily have turned for good but didn't and has publically stated his allegiance even though he kissed the rag badge to wind up the Everton fans and I don't think he's done himself any favours with some of his other antics either.

Rooney is a twat which I've already stated but my point was that he's not making himself out to be a lifelong Rag and media cheerleader when the likes of Rush, Spit, McPointy, Owen and Fowler are go to guys for the MSM for Liverpool quotes and opinions and are reeled out to say how delighted they are whenever things are going well for them when they were all boyhood Everton fans.

None of the United lads I know from by ours or in your neck of the woods like Rooney, they never forgave him for the transfer posturing in 2010 just to get more money out of the club. And I don’t reckon there’ll be a statue outside Goodison either, loads of the older heads fucked him right off. Of course he’ll have pockets of supporters at both clubs who’ll like him but he’s not universally revered anywhere. Like Michael Owen in that respect.

I've already said what a twat Rooney has been as a person but my point with him is around his allegiance and when you take everything out of the equation he has brought his kids up as Everton fans.
Owen ran his contract down and denied you of a bigger transfer fee than you would have got and also played for the Rags so I can understand the indifference towards him.
My initial point was local / localish lads like the ones I've mentioned are reeled out publically stating in the MSM how delighted they are about THEIR club doing well or giving an opinion as to what THEIR club needs to do when they grew up following their City rivals shows them up as a bit false and dare I say it, turncoats.

The thing here is that players are totally different from fans in that they grew up supporting one team but achieved their life’s ambitions with another. We can’t do that as fans, we have to settle with whoever’s playing in our shirts. Football is such an intrinsic part of our fabric that we, let’s say you & I, would never countenance a switch. They on the other hand, whether we like it or not, are constantly changing their allegiances on some level because that’s what the job entails. McManaman was a boyhood Blue, signed for Liverpool but he’s still a Blue as are his kids. Yet he talks about us with genuine passion because we helped him make his dreams come true. I’d like to think I’d never have signed for Everton or United if I was already a pro but I’d have signed for either to get my foot in the door. It’s recognition and validation of your talent & belief and if one club doesn’t want you or hasn’t shown an interest then that’s their hard lines.
