FA Cup 8/9/10/11 January

The thing here is that players are totally different from fans in that they grew up supporting one team but achieved their life’s ambitions with another. We can’t do that as fans, we have to settle with whoever’s playing in our shirts. Football is such an intrinsic part of our fabric that we, let’s say you & I, would never countenance a switch. They on the other hand, whether we like it or not, are constantly changing their allegiances on some level because that’s what the job entails. McManaman was a boyhood Blue, signed for Liverpool but he’s still a Blue as are his kids. Yet he talks about us with genuine passion because we helped him make his dreams come true. I’d like to think I’d never have signed for Everton or United if I was already a pro but I’d have signed for either to get my foot in the door. It’s recognition and validation of your talent & belief and if one club doesn’t want you or hasn’t shown an interest then that’s their hard lines.
I can honestly say if rather not turn pro if celtic was my only option.

Haha...fair tackle. There must be loads though who’ve grown up as Rangers but went on to do well with Celtic. I know Dalglish was a Rangers fan, but didn’t get picked up by them.

Rooney is a twat which I've already stated but my point was that he's not making himself out to be a lifelong Rag and media cheerleader when the likes of Rush, Spit, McPointy, Owen and Fowler are go to guys for the MSM for Liverpool quotes and opinions and are reeled out to say how delighted they are whenever things are going well for them when they were all boyhood Everton fans.
I went to school with a lad who was a die hard Sheff Utd fan.

He was quality at football and got a trial for Wednesday and never showed up.

Said he’d rather shovel dog shit for a living than even go for a trial there.

On the one hand I thought he was an idiot but on the other I kind of respected it.

In retrospect I’m not sure if that was the best decision! Did he ever make it?

No but to be fair he probably wasn’t good enough anyway, plus he was fairly old at this point to be joining academies, maybe 15/16 with no prior experience at a professional club, so I doubt he missed out.

Last time I saw him he was happy with a family so it all worked out.

So the Derby kids have a positive within the squad (BBC) who will be taken out of the equation for today so he'll not infect others...it's just fucking madness.

Stop the world or at least football I want to get off.

I get that you become attached to a club if you achieve success there or stay a long time, our very own Kompany and Silva for example weren't boyhood blues and for the English contingent thr likes of Micah Richards wasn't and further back neither were the likes of Mike Summerbee but they talk about us with great passion and this could apply to hundreds of ex pros at all clubs.and I get that but that's not the point.
When playing, for most pros it's just a job and you always have your own team,
Mcmanaman also played for us yet openly routes for the opposition every time I've heard him covering our games and I've got to the point that I won't watch a channel if he's there and fortunately I have alternative options to putting up with him and his bitter, biased and unprofessional ramblings.
This is someone who ran his contract down and walked away from your club for free after being part of a declining team and achieved most of his success with Real Madrid.
I'm not sure if you've understood my point or not but my issue is with local lads turning on their boyhood club in favour of their local rivals.
Lee Dixon for example is a boyhood City fan and his Dad played for us in the 60s but I get that he has a huge affinity with Arsenal as he achieved so much there.
I can understand that as Arsenal aren't a local rival but when you've got so many local lads cheerleading for a club when they grew up supporting thei local rivals it annoys me and is bang out of order IMO.

Bobby Duncan starting for Derby v Chorley, Slippy G’s cousin who was poached by the Scousers from City’s academy then fell out with them and ended up abroad for a while iirc
