Formation didn't come into it. We lost because our passing game was slow, and couldn't penetrate their back 4. We needed a player like AJ who could beat a man one on one.

I rest my case.

It wasn't the formation change that led to a loss or draw in 90% of the times it was used.

It was because we sold Adam Johnson in the summer. Please excuse me while I laugh and cry at the same time, both from utter bemusement.

I'm pissing myself here.

Was it the tactics? Was it the lack of motivation? Was it the manager failing to get the best out these world class players?

No.

It was Adam fucking Johnsons fault YCNMIU

Someone who hates the scum like you and Chelsea who are screwing up English football.

Well done again on your multiple 'also ran' medals, losers!

You won a big fat fucking zero last season and only total desperation from Bacon and the purchase of RVP saved your skins.... Bacon retired because of stress, we got to him

"Also ran" let's see how you fair under Golum..... Come back in 12 months smartarse

It was nothing to do with tactics

We lost because Zabaleta got himself stupidly sent off and players like Yaya and Silva had very quiet games. Martinez played the same game plan he usually employs, but City didn't have the ability in the team to break through their back line.

We win, you say nothing. We lose, you blame the manager.

With the sale of AJ, we lack a single player who can beat a player one on one with the possible exception of Aguero

Marvin,

It did have a lot to do with tactics today. The level of the individual performances of the players today was poor and you can debate how much of that was down to tactics but Wigan were tactically superior to us today. They have caused us problems before this season and Martinez has seen what works against us and used it; Mancini relied on picking his best team and standard tactics, rather than the best team and tactics for the occasion.
Wigan were superior because they had five midfielders in a 4-5-1 or a 3-5-2 and we were overrun there. In hindsight would have been better starting with Milner instead of Nasri and Rodwell as the extra man in midfield, with Aguero or Tevez as a lone striker but with Yaya just behind.

Yes, PB, we should have started with Milner and Rodwell but I don't think the manager should have needed hindsight...

Got hit by a **** in a Merc 4x4 on the way down so I'm stiff as fuck, compounded by gigantic steaming pile of shite that got delivered on the Wembley turf, all in all an absolute motherfucker of a day.

Sorry mate. Did the Merc see the brunt of the damage? If so, slight consolation...

No he shouldn't, having seen them do the same thing to us a couple of weeks ago.

Nasri conjured up one moment in the 1st half when we opened up Wigan's defence and that was about it. AJ would at least have been able to beat a man and then suddenly we'd have been in their box and the whole thing would have opened up. That in my opinion was what we were crying out for. AN AJ, or someone who could beat a man.

At one point I thought we reverted to 3-5-2 ...........but did we?

Yes, for the final 1/3rd of the match. It would have been a carbon copy of the Dortmund match except for two things: Zabba got sent off instead of their player directly scoring from the interception, and Mancini never really changed the formation back immediately afterwards (something he at least did in the CL matches he blew).

I think the entire formation and personnel right from the beginning was all wrong.

Tevez, Aguero, Nasri, Silva and Toure just doesn't work anymore.

Exactly.Bobby Manc was meant to be going for Sanchez,Martinez,Sanchez winger what we need-Martinez Attacking Mid,maybe winger.Maybe it was Marwood or Fair play rules were contributing factors but we all know Sinclair was the cheap option. If Bobby had the players he wanted last summer maybe it would be different!!!

Our midfield was woeful today, truly shocking display.
Where to start?...

The Tevez and Nasri substitutions were absolutely baffling considering they were the only players creating upfront. Certainly others deserved to be subbed before those two... Aguero, Silva and Toure for example.

Silva was particularly dreadful today, his game was summed up for me in the second half when Mcmanamanamanamanamanaman (i believe) literally walked past him on the edge of the box. It was genuinely shocking for a professional footballer to not even get a foot in.

Although he's never been the quickest, Barrys lack of mobility today was seriously abused. Yaya basically walked around the pitch all match gasping for air. Whilst Wigan won the midfield battle with ease and played between the lines no problem at all.

We seriously need to put some energy into the center of midfield, there was absolutely no pressure on the ball at times. And that could have been resolved by putting on some industrious legs in the form of Milner and Rodwell.

Also, how hard is it to spot when a player needs help?
Clichy was given an absolute torrid time, yet mancini does fuck all.
Put milner on that side with him, if you're going to put him on a wing. At least milner puts in a shift defensively and could have stopped mcmanamananans significant impact on the game.

Pretty much this. We were not tactically good enough today nor did we play our own game well enough to make up for it. We set up with the best team but not necessarily the right team tactically against Wigan. Fair plays to Martinez for doing his homework.

Replacing Nasri and Tevez whist leaving on Silva who over-hit everything whilst attempting hollywood passes one after the other was ridiculous. Surprisingly, the only ball i remember him playing well was from the chance created by nasri where Tevez should have scored.

Yaya, Silva, Aguero and Barry should've been subbed all before the two mentioned previously.
