Where would be the best area to have a pre match drink with a friendly atmosphere, taking my three girls along, aged 10, 12 and 17, we travel everywhere watching the Vale and this will hopefully be an amazing experience.
Thanks..

One easy recommendation is Shambles Square. There are two big pubs there and it sits in a square next to the Arndale and close to the Corner Exchange where there are places to eat, Urbis (Football Museum), Printworks (which houses some bars), and is near Manchester Cathedral, the Arndale and St Annes Sq (Royal Exchange Theatre is worth a look around if you have time).

Northern Quarter has a lot of bars too and a nice atmosphere including Afflecks Palace which certainly used to be worth walking around. Trendy place for young people although that was a long time ago when I was young!

There are lots of parts of Manchester worth a visit but some bits are a little inconvenient if you are going to the football.

If your kids are thinking about uni - Manchester Museum is worth a visit as it's based in the Manchester University campus. And you can check out the campus which is really cool. The students aren't there now. But it's on a fantastic road for buses which takes you right into the heart of Manchester: Albert Sq and St Peters Sq worth a look. Depends how much time you have.

Thanks for all the info, our train arrives at 2pm so we have a relaxing 2 hours or so to take in and enjoy the atmosphere, like the idea of Shambles Square as it has food outlets.⚽

Might cost you a few bob with three girls as Selfridges and Harvey Nicks is just around the corner...

Yes, sounds like the best bet. I think you can get a tram from a Shudehill tram stop (behind Printworks which you'll see from Shambles Sq) but you might find it easier to get the 216 bus from outside Morrisons supermarket opposite fountains in Piccadilly Gardens (they are every 5 mins and home and away fans regularly use them together). Bus will take 15 mins to get there and run every 5 mins or so but best to catch it by 4.30pm. Most are football specials which go direct to the ground and the drop off point is outside the away end.

Allow for 10 min queue to get in. Stewards search everyone.

PS. Around 5,000 seats left. Going to be sold out. Just a question of when.

What Marvin said. Shambles Sq is a great shout but the bouncers at Sinclairs Oyster Bar can sometimes be funny buggers about letting football fans in. You should be ok but if a load of Vale fans are pitched up before you get there, it might be too full. Plenty of other places round there though

This has no reason to be moved from 1501 though has it ? Overseas TV is not an excuse to move a KO, as it can only not be shown on TV at 1500 in UK. There is no benefit to any fans in the UK for this being moved, none.

I'm on the FA Cup scheme, but 1730 ko's get me home at nearly 2300, and are the most disruptive to my weekend, so I'll pay for a ticket I won't be using, and yes I am going tomorrow, and will not be home till 2300, as trains have been booked. I could have booked trains for this for a 1500 ko yesterday when it was originally "confirmed", luckily I hadn't got round to it, but now I'll save myself £50 and find a stream instead.
I never get home before 2300 after a 17.30 ko. Mind you I seldom get home before 2300 after a 12.30 ko. Presumably if its a 15.00 ko you don't get home until 21.00. Really don't see what your problem is
