FA Cup R3 - Port Vale (H) - Sat 04/01 - 5:31pm

Manchester City v Port Vale will probably be the largest crowd of the FA Cup weekend. The only game that could beat it is Arsenal v Leeds on Monday night. There's Liverpool v Everton but I think their capacity is 53k so we should beat that just about. Still the Emptihad though :-)

Back to the recurring theme of Stoke: 1934 record domestic attendance for an English game: 84,569. Maine Road.

Hope you enjoy the day. 8,000 away fans shows your club is alive and kicking. Onwards and upwards in 2020 for Vale and Man City.

City have a lot of great games coming up: Everton, Port Vale, Man Utd, Real Madrid. I am looking forward to our game as much as those other games.

You're Stoke, you're a F'king Joke! I always enjoyed singing that. Started back one Boxing Day in about 1998 when we were 1-0 down and won 2-1 at home. We were mid-table in League One and ended up winning the Play-off. And it has been one unbelievable ride since then. I don't think any club on the planet will ever experience the 20 years that we had. And it all started with the defeat of Stoke!

Super Vale away..super vale away..super Vale away..oh aye oh aye....⚫⚪⚽

Looking forward to this. Taking me 2 kids and cost me £17 for all 3 tickets. I still love the FA Cup no matter how much people have tried to tarnish it. I think a Vale fan said he remembers going to Maine Road and winning on Boxing Day. I memory serves me right that was 0-0 and also a sell out. I remember being smashed in the Sherwood Boozer that day.

He was spot on they won 1-0 boxing day 96.

Our team was:
Margetson; McGoldrick,Rodger, Lomas,Symons, Ian Brightwell, Summerbee, Brown, Dickov, Rosler, Kinkladze.

Three subs came on: Kavelashvili, Creaney, Jeff Whitley. (Wow! What a bench!)

I am surprised we kept it down to 0-1. And no, I don't know why it's all gone into bold letters.

Hi, Obviously a Vale fan here looking forward to visiting the Eitihad for the first time, went to Maine Rd a few times, think we won the last time on a Boxing Day.How things have changed your club has gone into orbit compared to where you were and us well we were never in orbit but we did have a decent Championship side, but due to the massive influx of "Foreign" investment we had no chance of doing anything but going down and down. You may be wondering why if Vale average 4.5k home gates how come 8k plus will be there on Saturday ? Well we very nearly went to the wall last year our last owner bled the club dry of any income, one of his proud achievements was feeding the players on out of date pies from previous games can you believe that and our reputation was at an all time low we just survived relegation to the National league and we were days away from being but into administration, fortunately our new owners Carol and Kevin Shanahan bought the club at albeit a vastly inflated price, rumour has it £4 million, small change to club like yours but an absolute ransome for us.

Vale fans are so grateful that there has been an out pouring of "Love" towards our new owners hence the Super Vale Away Chant you will no doubt hear, Carol has said she misses sitting in the away crowd singing this particular song and Vale fans from all over the country are coming to you as a show of appreciation to the Shanahan family for rescuing our club, we realise we have no chance of getting anything, even a corner will be met with wild celebration ! Our victory will come when the gate receipts are totted up it will mean the Shanahans will get some money back on their initial investment,a draw like this is like winning the lottery for a 2nd division club like us as we get isolated more and more from footballs top table.
Someone mentioned a pre season friendly at Vale Park in the early 70's I was at the game absolute mayhem that day, thank goodness those days are in the past.

Ps Please keep it to single figures, Shite City would love us to get hammered !!!!

Welcome to our wonderful stadium. It's a bit big but we are really a friendly bunch (some do give the impression we aren't but the ones I know are great)!! Like you we've had our ups and downs as everyone knows but at heart the fans are in the main the same daft CTID lot. There are some newcomer/tourists but we don't really worry about them, except on Euro nights!c

Have a great time, I can't promise what the lads on the field will do but I'm sure you will have a ball (pun intended!!) You are doing your owners proud and I am sure they will appreciate it. I bet they will find it interesting in their corporate area! :-)

That team should have pissed the division, there was talk of Kinky going to Wembley 3 times in 1997 at one point as well. Foyle who looked about 50 scored.

5:31!

Is this the first game to KO at a time in between the five minute timebands of a clock?

That’s the best way I could think of describing it!
