Forgive my ignorance on the subject, but was there any official reasoning given for having this scheduled for today rather than tomorrow?

ITV wanted their game on Sunday and they have first pick. The fact it made City's chance of winning less likely had no impact whatsoever.
And yes I'm being sarcastic.
