Even when in position to defend, he’s left a lot to be desired. As has Zinchenko, though he’s improved considerably. Delph’s been poor. I don’t think any of our left backs are good at defending. Mendy is the best at attacking outside, Zinchenko is the best at attacking inside. So the decision on who to play (if they are ever all fit at the same time) rests more on their offensive qualities than defensive ones, as none of them inspire any confidence in that regard. Having Laporte to cover behind them on his natural side is a blessing.
