FA Cup Third Round - West Ham (a) 7.55pm Friday 6th Jan

Shite draw but still no real excuse to lose it. West Ham have clearly not taken to the souless bowl to which they have moved, are and will still be in a relegation battle when this is played. Newcastle, Brighton, Leeds (god forbid) at home are the kind we would be most likely to make a right royal fucking hash of.

In the third round draw there are 43 other sides from the top 2 tiers and 20 lower/non-league sides, so statistically there's a 68% chance of us or the rags drawing a PL/Champ side in any 3rd round draw and a 32% chance of drawing a lower/non-league side.

Having done a quick scan of the 3rd round opponents in the last 50 years the stats are as follows : City 70% : 30%, Rags 74% : 26%. So we've done roughly as expected over that time and the rags have actually had a slightly larger share of opponents from the top 2 tiers.

Don't shoot the messenger. ;-)

There are 64 teams in the third round draw of which 44 are Premiership or championship sides after the third round a lot of the non premier/championship sides are eliminated. the odds are always in favour of getting a premiership or championship team and generally you will get a run of them particularly as you progress. I haven't seen anything to suggest we have has a particulary unfavourable set of draws over several years . We've played at home a fair bit.

Great research. Glad the myth has been debunked.

It's not a bad draw, rather have a team lower down in the Prem than a team high in the Championship, in recent years we lost against Boro and Forest both Lower league teams at home.
West ham away , it will be a great atmosphere with thousands of blues there, it's a new ground and many thousands will have a better chance to go , those without the sufficient loyalty points for a normal league game, also with the league game being midweek it gives many the chance to go now, some might have missed the midweek game through work etc.

Utd, Liverpool , Chelsea have boring run of the mill draws we have an exciting one, don't see the problem here.

I'm glad someone has posted these stats. Cup draws aren't something I see as being bent.

But proper football only started in 1992 !

Im glad we've drawn them , would really like to visit the stadium. We'll get more tickets than usual of course. Good bet for live TV coverage.
