Yes I know like Clichy for example, what I meant was I would rather name 17 non-hg and promote the likes of lopes, pozo, ihenacho etc rather than waste money on mediocrity like Fabian Delph or Danny Rose.

Well all those players are under 21 and don't have to be named as part of the 25 man squad. They are in addition.

However, if we have a smaller squad then these players would play more of a part for the first team.

Think his point is that i.e. Chelsea have bought players (Fabregas and Matic) who directly strengthened their first XI, and the players already there became "squad players" or sold as a result.

Replacing a 4th choice midfielder (Fernando) with i.e. Delph, who would be the new 3rd/4th choice, obviously wouldn't make as much a difference as signing i.e. Pogba.

Even though you have a point, it's about time we improved our first eleven, and not just replacing a squad player with another squad player.

At least that's what I think he means, and he has a point.

I'm not saying we shouldn't strengthen the team, of course we should, but some City fans make the huge mistake of writing down an extremely impressive starting eleven, and turning their noses up at lesser players who maybe wouldn't feature in an ideal eleven but could have a huge role to play when we pick up injuries, suspensions, or we want to rest people.

Could be that like most not wearing sky blue knickers (and many that are) he didn't think we were actually getting our major targets and then received confirmation we likely will be.
