Fabio Coentrao

Better left back than what we have now, I like Clichy but this lad has the defensive capabilities and better attacking ones than Clichy, Kolarov isn't near these two IMO.

Clichy's brilliant defensively, sadly he cant cross his legs if you could somehow clone Clichy and Kolarov you would have a rich man's Roberto Carlos.

Clichy needs to improve his defending he got the runaround to many times last season of average players and cost us points

Coentrao deal is just as much real as Kolarov going to Juventus for more than ten million pounds.

I apologize if me having actually watched a player a lot gives me an opinion on how he plays, rather than basing it off random things I've heard other people say and maybe one or two CL games.

The fact you’ve seen him play a lot obviously isn’t the problem, as indicated by the fact you wrote it sarcastically. However, the fact you support the team he used to play for, where he was one of the best players, makes me think there’s a pretty good chance you became a big fan of him. Therefore, similarly to the Bosnians in the Dzeko thread you cannot see any flaws in his game and so continuing this debate is almost pointless.

I think Coentrao is a good left back, I just don’t think he’s an upgrade on Kolarov. In the games I’ve seen him, of which admittedly none were live, and the number will be far less than yours, he has looked suspect positionally and seems to lose concentration on occasion, he sometimes makes up for it with his pace but when playing top teams they don’t allow you this margin for error and this is where he gets found out. Kolarov is worse in this respect as he can’t cover his mistakes with pace but he’s better in the air, stronger and more willing to get stuck in (more prevalent in the Premier League than Spain or Portugal). Therefore, in my opinion there’s not much between them and I’d rather keep Kolarov who’s settled in the squad, familiar with our players and offers a more different option to Clichy and save the £10m net spend.
Everyone's entitled to an opinion whether right or wrong, but I'd like to make one point. Even if I'd never seen Coentrao play, I'd still want a replacement for Kolorov because he's not what we need for a club with our ambitions in the Premier League or Champions League.

I can think of slightly worse left backs that we've had eg: Javier Garrido and Stephen Jordan (Who both also suffered from a seriously painful lack of pace), but Kolorov is not the answer for Manchester City.

To conclude; think of the players who constantly have threads attributed to them whereby the fans don't believe they are good enough for where we're going and Kolorov's name keeps cropping up alongside Sinclair, Garcia and until recently Dzeko (Who most fans are prepared to give another season to see if a different manager can teach him how to control a ball first time) with Lescott and Nasri (which I personally disagree with) bringing up the rear.

Most players have had a period of time where the fans have lost faith in them, but from the beginning of his Manchester City career until now, this has mostly been the case with Kolorov.

Ask yourself one question, would Real accept a swap deal with Coentrao coming to us and Kolorov going the other way? I would hazard a guess that Real would tell us to fuck off and to stick our liberty taking offer where the sun don't shine.

If Jose was still there, maybe....

The Portuguese tactician believes the player is extraordinary...

Inter tactician Jose Mourinho insists that the Nerazzurrri should target Lazio defender Aleksandar Kolarov during the summer.

The 'Special One' would like to be in charge of the player, branding the left-back an extraordinary talent.

"Kolarov is an extraordinary player. Lazio is not a big team," the Portuguese boss told TMW. "Personally, I would like to be his coach.

"The only obstacle in front of us in order to obtain his playing contract would be his price. [Lazio president Claudio] Lotito is asking for a lot, and the situation to bring him across is not easy.

"I hope that the player can find a big side that will allow him to show off his talents and qualities," added Mourinho.

Kolarov was close to joining the Nerazzurri during the winter transfer window, but a move failed to materialise.

Not particularly a Kolarov advocate but I'll back Mourinho's judgement rather than a load of naysayers on here

Coentrao, more outside than inside

At Real Madrid are more outside than inside Fabio Coentrao. The Portuguese player could be living their last days as a player of the white team. In fact, the side was absent from training for two days for personal reasons, according to the club's official version, but this Thursday afternoon rejoined the group. Not on Wednesday or Thursday in the morning session was seen Coentrao by Valdebebas.

The truth is that since joining Real Madrid, the portugese always been in the spotlight of the hobby, both for his performance on the pitch as being involved in more than one plane extradeportivo controversy.

The high price that Real Madrid had to pay to Benfica in 2011 (30 million euros), has also been a drag on the player in his two seasons in white. Moreover, the departure of Jose Mourinho, his great supporter in his time at Madrid, may be another factor to pack your bags Coentrao.

Therefore, and because even the player himself said at the end of last season did not feel comfortable in white discipline, everything indicates that the output of the player is the best choice for both parties, and will soon reach an agreement for this. Furthermore, Coentrao still having a good poster in Europe and offers are not great teams missing from the continent.

So The Special One could have got Kolorov for £16m but thought it too much money, then he went and spunked £26m on Coentrao? Sorry but that makes no sense to me in the slightest unless he thought the same way that I did, that Coentrao was a vastly superior player to Kolorov.

Defensively he is poor. Great going forward. Althoigh I am not a Kolarov fan, I would not regard the Portugeser as an upgrade.

Different clubs, different times. I'm sure he'll be gutted it makes no sense to you.

I've only seen Coentrao play half a dozen or so full games, so I'm not really in a position to comment.

A lot of folk waxed lyrical about Garcia & Jo before they started playing, Zabba & De Jong got slated by more than a few when they first started with us......It's all about opinions and sometimes they change when you watch a player week in week out

Real Madrid Reach Agreement With Lazio's Aleksandar Kolarov

The Serbian international has reportedly agreed to terms with Los Blancos, who must now dedicate themselves to negotiating with Lazio for the left-back...
As reported by Marca, Real Madrid have agreed terms with Lazio left-back Aleksandar Kolarov on a deal for a summer switch, as the Serbian international has snubbed both Manchester City and Inter in agreeing to sign for Los Blancos.

According to reports, Kolarov has already spoken to new Madrid coach Jose Mourinho, who assured Kolarov of his place in the Special One's ambitious project.

They must now concentrate on negotiating with Lazio to agree on the fee; Madrid have reportedly launched a €20 million bid today for the player's services. Many expect Kolarov's transfer to go through in the short amount of time preceding the World Cup and are also reporting that the Spanish giants will attempt to secure winger Angel Di Maria's signature before Argentina's first match.
