You make it sound like they were happy to let him go which I don't think was the case at all. And although it is arguable that he made the right move for his career in moving, I am working on this notion that it is his dream to play Barcelona. He left when he was 16, he never even gave it a chance. And it's not like they don't give their youth team players a fair crack of the whip at Barcelona. It's all bollocks, when he thought it was better for his career to turn his back on Barcelona, he did, so I'm not convinced at all that it is Barcelona or nothing. Right now RM is 5 players over the 25 man squad man rule in Spain (yes they have the rule too). If the did buy him, the would have to sale 6 players. Personally I think, they are just making Barca pay more.

I think its more along the lines of Real are trying to sabotage Barca's transfer business in a variety of ways - and the only way with Fabregas might be to bid so high that Barca can't get him (knowing, of course, that Fabregas probably would never go to Real if they were the high bidders anyway).
