I think there's something amiss here. Why are we so publically revealing every step of the negotiations? Barca, it's players, staff and just about everyone else have said he's not for sale, so why are we continuing to dig ourselves into a hole? I just don't understand the thinking unless there is some indication from barca that a deal can be reached.

Because you're trying to convince people that you're trying to sign top players, before admitting defeat and signing Leon Osman?

I'd rather we not waste time going after unattainable players and sign someone. There's what, 18 days til kick off? We need to pull our finger out. I think it may be time to walk away and look at other targets.

The pursuit of Fabregas does seem a bit odd. He was hankering after a return to Barca for years and it doesn't make sense that 2 years after going back there he'd now be open to moving elsewhere, particularly as the likes of Xavi aren't getting any younger plus they've already lost Thiago this summer for a relatively modest fee. I suppose if you offered them somewhere north of £40 million for him then they may well be interested but as things stand I can't see anything in either Cesc's or Barca's recent comments to suggest that he may be available.
