Jack, how do you rate Jones, Clevz and Wellbrilliant?

Jones and Welbeck will be great for us, Jones especially. I think he has the most potential. With Welbeck it's just a question of where he will end up. He plays up front, behind the striker and out wide and so far has only really used his skills to help the team collectively, such as marking Alonso or his work rate. A striker that can't finish is pretty much as problematic as it gets so he really needs to start doing that if he wants to start for us regularly after the age of about 25.

Cleverley, while promising hasn't really stepped up. He's good at keeping the ball and can pass it well but doesn't really impose himself on the game. Not creative enough, or defensive enough to be given a style. He just sort of partners Carrick and keeps himself open for a pass. People keep talking as if he's a young player but he's 24, if he is to make it here he needs to prove himself.

But yeah, Jones excites me. I think he will be top class, providing we play him at cb and stop fooling ourselves that he can play central midfield.
Jones reminds me of Micah when he plays at right back. Power on the overlap. I don't think he has the touch to play in midfield. Utd fan at work calls Welbeck Heskey because he does everything but score. Big season for Welbeck. Has to add goals, or I think he will be on his way.

I don't think he is shit, he contributes to the team but as I said, if he wants to carry on playing for us as a striker he needs to score goals. Otherwise I can see him either making substitute appearances on the wing or moving on altogether.

-- Tue Jul 23, 2013 7:31 pm --

didn't u guys slate dirk kuyt for the very same thing negating the fact he did alot for the team :P?? but ridiculed him for the amount of goals he actually scored. Funny thing is kuyt was better at supporting and scoring then welbs :S. so you have an inferior version of him :<.

I never slated Kuyt, I knew he played as a winger with a high workrate, whereas some people who just love to hate scousers would rather be blind to what they see and hate nonetheless.

Basically Welbeck is doing this until he develops fully.

-- Tue Jul 23, 2013 7:39 pm --

But anyway, apologies for de-railing the thread. Back to Cesc?

:D Cheers

Back on topic, Cesc is apparently considering his future.

http://www1.skysports.com/football/news ... ky-sources

Does this mean Barca have given the green light?
