Putting my two penneth in. The system is as fair as it can be. I speak as a 41 year old been going for 20+ years and with just over 8000 points.

But for the younger ones they will just have to wait (like I and many others did). When I first started going I only got tickets for the swamp by queuing for hours (pre-points) but if the points system was in then I wouldn't have got them as I had only just started going and others would have been ahead of me and that would have been fair.

Let's be honest over the last few years nearly every away game has made open sale and so those that REALLY wanted to go could have done but didn't and now demand for the big games is there everyone is bleating about it. If they did go they would have started to catch others up quickly (as many obviously weren't going, the numbers backed that up).

Finally, points should be just a side issue to WANTING to go and support your team. I would be there regardless of points because I want to, not because of points on offer.

When you stated going there were not people with 9k points as there is now.

You can't catch up peple who go all the time even if you go all the time, you just fall behind as there are 5 or 6 league and a few cup games you can't get a ticket for this season.

It is a pretty selfish attitude.

You can catch people up because as I said before over the last few years most away games went to open sale and lots didn't sell out at all.
That means lots of people weren't going and so if you did you would be catching them all up.
It just takes time that's all.

If it sounds a selfish attitude that I get to go to Chelsea and the Swamp this season because I trawled around Bootham crescent watching Tony Vaughan get skinned by some 3rd division clogger then so be it.

-- Fri Mar 11, 2011 7:36 pm --

I know nearly every away game goes to open sale, because I get tickets on go to them all!

Then when the big games come around, I have to sit at home and watch it because someo older guy wants to go on his only away game of the season.

By the time I have enough points for these games, I will no longer be going week in week out but I'll still take my ticket for Old Trafford. And that shouldn't be right.

I want to experience the good away games whilst I'm young.

Sorry fella, this I want attitude is just wrong. I want a £3million mansion and 2 playgirls to serve me dinner but I won't get it.

You just can't come along go to games (however many) for a couple of years and then expect to get tickets for every game. That wouldn't be fair.

Keep going to the games and you will catch up (maybe not with the top 3/400 but with the others that don't go to every game) and eventually in a few years you will be much nearer the top of the pile.

this is bang on the money,i have had a season ticket for approx 8 years,i have picked the away games i want to go to and have accrued not far off 5000 points,if i want a ticket for utd away i realise i would prob have to buy a ticket for every away game for a couple of seasons, like many people have before me,and i would eventually have enough points.
The current system 'rewards' the fans that have gone to the most games in the past which is entirely correct,if you want a ticket for utd, liverpool etc away, get your tickets in for every other team away first, then you will be able to go simple as.

I rekon it is as fair as it can be, apart from the OSC allocations not being transparent for all to see.

I am in my 6th season regarding having a season ticket and doing away games, I have got now near 5000 points in the 6 seasons. I did'nt get a ticket for rags away nor Chelsea away. I managed to get a ticket for Blackpool away via a lad I have met doing away trips with City.

gaining a decent amount of points can be achieved and those that feel that they deserve a ticket for Manure away because they have done 25 away games in the last 2 seasons need to get a reality check.

There are loads of loyal blues that for years have travelled all over England, Europe and the world watching the blues play in league, cup and friendly matches. People that have dedicated time and thousands of pounds to follow the club through thick & thin.

This thread would never have been started when I 1st started doing away games, it was only Manure away where I would struggle getting a ticket in my 1st season with only the bear minimum points.

Those that are low on points, keep going to ALL the games you can get too. Cup games, european games, friendly matches etc etc and I rekon you could probably catch up around 400 points per season on the fans that have an average number of loyalty points.

If you do 10,15,20 years of away games and season tickets that to me is loyalty an that should always be remembered and taken into consideration for games where there will be a high demand for tickets

Nothing wrong with the present system, Go to the games get the points then first in the queue. No argument really imo.

Spot on that.

Tonster said the last few away games went on open sale.

Chatting shit, Chelsea didn't , united didn't, county didn't , Leicester didn't, Arsenal didn't but maybe Brum did. Very few have in 2011

It is impossible to catch up unless you go to dire fiendlies in New York and ZA.That is fair isn't it?

It is the part timers who ar against change. No one else has anything to fear.

Thing is though mate if you stick at it you will catch up and everyone who was there during the Pearce era are worthy of the crown jewels.
Can't be much fairer than that can you?

How would a pyramid system would just like in football with promotions and relegations?

Instead of accumulating points over a decade, how about spending the points you earn? For example each game is given a points criteria where you spend those points like chips. So for example the big games where tickets are in high demand such as Spurs, Arsenal, Liverpool ect are 5 point games, the rest like Sunderland, Birmingham, Villa ect are 10 point games. Home cup games earn you 5-15 points depending on the important of the tie (FA Cup QF v Utd for example would earn you 5 points whilst a Carling Cup game against Macclesfield would earn you 15.

Before all this though, to start with each and every season ticket holder is split into tiers or league tables if you like based on previous booking history.

You have

Open Pot Tier - Tier One - Tier Two - Tier Three – Tier Four

Then once everyone is organised the system will work like this

To move up the pyramid and gain greater priority to away tickets you need to earn the points to get you promoted. Spending 50 points gets you promoted to each next stage of the pyramid. Not attending games can get you relegated but only at the end of the season, so an example of that is those in Tier Four will be relegated if they miss one game in a season, those in Tier Three will be relegated if they miss 5 games in a season, those in Tier Two will be relegated if they miss 10 games in a season, those in Tier One will be relegated if they miss 15 games in a season.

Criteria for selling away games would be

Monday – Tier Four
Tuesday – Tier Three
Wednesday – Tier Two
Thursday – Tier One
DEADLINE PASSED FOR TIERS 1-4 MEMBERS
Friday – 5-25 points of Open Pot
Saturday – 26-50 of Open Pot
Sunday - open sale to all Tier members

A pyramid system like this keeps it fresh and rewards loyalty now, not loyalty gained by going years ago.

I Suspect some of what I have wrote may have flaws but I am writing it without really studying it and open to any criticisms or queries about it but i do think a pyramid system is the right way to deal with it.

The people that have them points have earn't them. Almost every away ticket is on general sale so that is not a problem. We have 36k season ticket holders. I myself didn't get a ticket for O.T and have just over 4,000 points. Just hit 21 so i consider myself in a pretty good position but I also understand why i didnt get a derby ticket at O.T.

People should stop moaning and get on with it, no fan magically got a huge amount of points by not attending, they earnt them by going to games over the years. So why penalise them? Because fans want to go now? I dont think so.

Instead of questioning points for a O.T. ticket shouldn't you instead ask why 900 corporates got tickets at this years derbys. Maybe when we get 4k sold away away at clubs like Bham this would be a valid arguement. No point in saying old season ticket holders dont go cup games because they clearly do, Ive had a season ticket since the new system got changed instead of 5 year regulars yet im 2/3k behind some people. That is no coincidence.

Idiots
