Simple question: Who at City is capable of playing as a false 9?

My list consists of De Bruyne and Nolito. That's it. That's the list. Anyone else?

I think it will be Silva who will play there and possibly against United if Sergio does get a ban.

I think Silva could play there, the only limiting factor is his finishing and his poor right foot.

I hate the term false 9. Tis bollox. It implies a striker who doesnt score enough goals but gets a free pass to stay in the team.

A forward that plays behind a striker and is more involved in link up play may be called a No 10 and that i get as that is a genuine position but what the F is a false No9?

Lionel Messi before Suarez played as a false 9

The first false 9 I ever known was called Lionel Messi and he used to score goals like a machine. I agree since then the term has been ballsed up but Guardiolas definition was very different

I think the term "false 9" doesn't necessarily mean 1 player plays that role. I think its a combination of attacking midfielders that at some point during the game take up the "number 9" position. So Bayern did this and anyone of of Muller, Goetze, Ribery or Robben took up the position. So as already stated it will be one of Silva, De Bruyne, Nolito, Sterling or Sane depending their position on the pitch at the time.

Nasri is best suited to that role in my opinion, excellent control and ball retention, decent finishing, two footed and fairly mobile when he gets going.

The point of a false 9 is that he plays further away from the opponent's goal than a regular 9. He essentially occupies the same space a no.10 would in a 4-2-3-1, but because there's no central player closer to the opponent's goal, it gives the centre backs a problem. Do they hold their usual line but have no-one to mark, allowing their opponents superiority in midfield, or do they follow the false 9 higher up the pitch, into an area they're uncomfortable in, leaving gaps behind for the wingers/other midfielders to break into?

As an aside, were Zaba and Clichy playing false 2 and false 3 respectively against the 'ammers?
