Fans Leaving QPR Early

We left a game early only once this season and that was at the Emirates about the 88th minute.... I really thought we'd blown it, heartbroken.... never before nor after that game.

Even though we were emotionally wrecked at 92 minutes v QPR we were going to stay to cheer the lads off the field, after all overall they had desrved it.

OK, I need to get this of my chest.

I LEFT EARLY !

I was in the Citizens Suite for the last game and thought the day I had dreamed of for 40+ years was just a couple of hours away.

I'd been to the Newcastle game and thought that it would be difficult to win up there, and our season could end at that game. I'd down played our chances of winning the league all year, especially to the 3 or 4 rag 'mates' that I had been abused by for 20+ years. This approach suited me, as we all know how many times City have let us down in the past.

I kept telling the rag 'mates' they had the experience and the manager. But, when we beat Newcastle, I couldn't hold back any longer and told them all it was our trophy and there's no way we'll mess up against QPR at home (First mistake). They all begrudgingly agreed, but told me if we do f it up, I better take a long holiday to avoid the stick they'll aim at me.

Well, we all know what happened in the game and at 80+ minutes I left my seat and headed back in to the Citizens lounge, not intending to leave the game, but just to drown my sorrows. Gary Owen was in there and said he couldn't watch it any longer. I didn't know what to do, and to be honest, the end of year 'thank you' wasn't even in my mind. All I could think of was the empty feeling that was building up inside me, all the journalists that had said we didn't have the mentality to do it, all my rag mates who would be unbearable, the newspapers the next day, the massive media blitz proclaiming United/20, etc. etc. etc.

It was all too much. I left the ground and got in my car. I even turned the radio off, as I was so depressed. I headed towards the Mancunian way and saw 3 or 4 other cars with City supporters and scarfs.

One car in front of me seemed to be going crazy, and then they suddenly pulled over and turned around. I turned on the radio to hear the last minute of the game commentary after we had scored the 3rd goal.

I couldn't believe it, what had happened ? really ?

I turned around and headed back to the ground. But, shit, the police had already stopped traffic at the Asda and I could not head back to the car park. Instead I drove around the back of the Asda and then came out directly opposite the car park entrance. I drove straight in, waving my parking pass, and then back to the Citizen's suite. The staff looked at my a bit weird, but after showing my ticket and wrist band, they let me in. I got back in my seat just as the last people were leaving the pitch.

So yes, I missed the two goals, missed the pitch invasion, but saw the presentation.

I'm embarrassed by my behaviour, but logic seemed far away at the time and I am sure some of you can sympathise with me (I hope).

I promise, I will NEVER, EVER, leave early again !

I for one can't really see the big deal about people leaving early. Each to their own - we all handle things in different ways. How many people left early against Gillingham at Wembley? Who cares now? Don't beat yourself up about it my friend. As a City fan of many a long year you have paid your dues, you have stuck with them through thin and thinner. You deserve to celebrate the title just as much as everyone else. Enjoy!

I don't think people should have left. It was the last game of the season, disappointment or not.

.

I don't think people should have left. It was the last game of the season, disappointment or not. That said, I identify with everything you said about gobbing off to colleagues after the Newcastle game. I would never have lived it down. A week 's sickness absence was genuinely on the cards, it seemed. Thank God for Edin and Sergio.

I am never going to gob off early again.
