Fans vs Supporters

You can be both, there are some fans who by definition support the club by putting thier money into the club, then there are those that don't.

I particulary like to use this when talking to so called Rags who've never even seen Old Trafford. I like to point out that the club they supposedly support doesn't benefit fit one bit from them going round calling themselves a UTD fan.

This fan v supporter debate applies more where successful clubs have a worldwide fan base. Something we might have soon.

So you range it on how "good" they are, sounds silly to me. I don't really make a difference between them. But I could accept that people who live in Manchester who goes to games every week is a supporter, and I who only follow City from Norway, and go to a few matches each year is just a fan.

Also your version of the supporter sounds like a brainwashed kind who can't question nothing about City. Just doesn't sound right to me.

a fan grows up to be a supporter.
i was a City fan (at least 2 seasons) before buying tickets and occasionally fly to manchester for a match day then buy some souvenirs .

I hear someone say they are a fan and I think TV watcher unless its preceded by the word 'mad' which then suggests that perhaps they go alot or maybe you just have to be mad to be a City fan which of course has certainly been a useful asset in years gone by. If someone says they are a City fan my next question is always 'do you go?'. Works well with rags too of course where the answer is usually no but (insert any lame excuse from the usual selection).

Supporters for me support the club through financial involvement i.e. going to games and buying stuff.

Agreed. I can't go to the stadium but I buy stuff when I can.

Last year i got a car crash cause of hurrying to go back home to watch chelsea vs city(away), that time city won 4-2 , i felt very happy and forgot loss on car crash (i broke traffic rule).

if there are many fan watching city playing on tv,i think that is another way for supporting the club because CITY will gain licence benefit from TV.

the more fan make the club bigger.

I think some people think I'm trying to say that your not a supporter unless you go to games, I'm not saying that at all, what I'm trying to say is that fans to me seem like constant moaners regardless a win, draw or a loss and constantly have a bad word to say about players that have a certain aspect to their game thats not entirely great i.e. Adebayour's pace.

To me fans thrive on their club winning games and trophies, whilst at the same time Supporters are just happy to see their club improve as a team and at same time feel gutted when their team loose but go a completely different way about reacting to it then fans do.

Fan's or Supporters we all favorite 1 team and 1 team only but the way we go about things are completely different I'm not saying 1 is better then the other.

I think it's just a matter of individuals taking what they want/need from football as opposed to there being a difference between fans and supporters.

Some blokes want to moan and whinge non stop and will continue to do so even if we go the next 200 games unbeaten.

Some fans like to get overly excited and 1 goal from a young player is more than enough to earn said youngster the tag of 'new Colin Bell/Kinladze/Pele/Maradonna'.

Football is entertainment for the masses and the masses, as a rule, are idiots.

It's all about perception. Some people think Beckham was a world great. Others think that City play with 3 defensive midfielders etc etc.

For me,

Fan is someone that will watch some games on tv and be happy if they win. In the same way that I'm a fan of Mclaren and the English F1 drivers.

A supporter is someone that organises there time around their club like next weekend. My lady is taking me to the lakes for a dirty birthday weekend but didn't tell me til today when I informed her it was fine but for the fact that I would leave the hotel for most of Saturday to go watch us play b burn, which caused a huge argument I won.

Show off...I've seen the pics of your missus...;- )

Seriously though, I've a similar problem...I'm taking the good lady to the Philippines for Christmas and New Year to celebrate her finishing her PHD...however she was more than a little disturbed last night when I started ringing hotels to check what kind of cable they have and whether they will be showing the premier league while I'm over there...

Thankfully managed to find a top notch room with flat screen tv, cable, the works...and a view of the beach...so I can lie in bed and watch the footy while she lies on the beach...

...she complained about it until I hit her hard with "listen. either we do it like this, and I don't miss any City games, or we don't go. it's up to you..." She soon went back to just being delighted to have such a cool and generous boyfriend...

Interesting question about fan v supporters...

ha ha - I wouldn't be too sure on that one though!!

I have been let down for Football matches in Phillipines too many times now!

there is just not the interest there!

Although I took 3 City shirts out there at the end of last season

Where you travelling to?

No distinction between the two IMO, I'm fanatical about City and I spend a small fortune supporting them.

i agree, first game 7 years old 1965 second division, supported them through the glory days 67-72 then through all the crap that followed,it wasnt a choice in my day to be a city fan you just were, same with both my boys ,some people on here think that because you dont hold a season ticket your not a proper fan b------s.circumstances dictate.never really thought that i would ever see city win anything again but it is now nailed on
