Found this thread completely by accident earlier today and have ploughed through the 57 pages to-date.
No doubt, the OP was himself the Cock and Shitbag in the whole affair but I am grateful to finally understand the occasional, seemingly random, references in other threads along the lines of "needs a good slap, preferably when asleep on a train.." which always struck me as unnecessary and un-Blue(!) without having this foundation stone as historic explanation!

I can only think that, further down the track, this episode was almost certainly the inspiration for Wheatus' single hit, originally titled "I'm just a Railway Shitbag.." whose video appropriately opens with a geezer asleep...
