Many of you will be aware that we had some great times watching matches as a huge, welcoming group of London based Blues in The City Pride and then The Blue Anchor (now both finished with) - but the new season is upon us and we've got nowhere officially sorted to watch the TV matches together. The Charity Shield is a week today.

As desperate as it sounds, has anyone got any idea regarding what we can do? The City Pride closed for a refurbishment and didn't appear to get their Sky / ESPN sorted out and The Blue Anchor's service was a joke despite being in a cosy room downstairs. All we really need is somewhere central, accessible, reasonably priced, good screens and football fan friendly. Real Ale and food would also be nice. We've never had any mither and it'd be a shame to finish what was largely a great experience. My mate met his future Wife before a Manchester derby in The Pride!

Suggestions? Offers of help? We need a new base.

Sorry I can't help as I'm a Manc BUT is there anywhere 'Darn Sarf' where you can get Real Ale ? It's all flat horrible stuff. I thought that's why you drank noncey lager with a lemonade 'top'.

Why do you want to know? You blatantly won't be joining us and your post didn't exactly help our situation!

p.s. Tueartsboots is from Wythenshawe and I'm from Middleton. Life has just taken us elsewhere. We've met so many other exiled Mancs it's unreal.

So is The Blue Anchor officially dumped then? Having been there on May 13th I thought they did a pretty good job in the circs (TV system for the first 10 mins excepted) and to describe it as a good atmosphere is like saying Bradley Wiggins knows how to ride a bike. I can't think it could have been any better than actually Being There?

-- Sun Jul 29, 2012 11:55 am --

And credentials-wise, I'm from Didsbury, living in Notts and father of two London-based Blues.

'top'.

Are you allowed to take your whippet into the boozer with you?

Being someone who enjoys real ale, I struggle to find decent real ale boozers in Manchester. London has far mor real ale boozers and better beer.

There are dozens of pubs that would fit the bill. The anchor and the pride worked because they were central, were (on the whole) decent and were close to public transport links.

They also had vaguely city related names which was nice. But frankly, I don't think many of us are that fussed if the pub is called Rag Bastard Central, so long as we can watch the game. If they lay on some food, that's a bonus.

The thing about somewhere like the pride is because it was little bit off the beaten track it was a little happier about the extra trade. Places on the main thoroughfares dont have to work hard for their customer base so on the whole they dont. Maybe one of those Off-the-beaten-track places in clerkenwell or Bloomsbury?

what might work is if four or five of us met up one evening this week and did a mini pub crawl? Sampling atmosphere, facilities, maybe talk to the manager?

I personally would refuse to put a penny in to a Pub's till when it takes them 10 minutes to put a match on, there's a huge queue for a drink because they've got insufficient Staff, they run out of draught beer then bottled beer - and close an hour after final whistle despite people wanting to celebrate. A couple of my Pals were there. TB was swamped with complaints so there's been a summer to find somewhere else. A new permanent base who welcome us.

How long's the city pride closed for?

Just go back there when it's done, no??

I think it's back open again but they've not got Sky or ESPN. They appear to be reinventing themselves as a Bistro.

-- Sun Jul 29, 2012 3:15 pm --

I'd be up for that.
