"Farewell Mario: The Firework In Blue"

Perfectly described Toma.

I feel the same way, loved him whilst he was here, sad to see him go but knew it was time for him to go.

Everyone has the their own definition of a legend these days, well fuck em if they don't agree... Balotelli = Legend :)

Good article which sums up Mario well. It has been a great roller-coaster ride with him (just like a lifetime of watching City). It was a privilege to be at Old Trafford for that goal. I have waited decades for that moment. You had to be there to see the faces of the United fans. No one has taken the piss like that at Old Trafford. For me that moment eclipsed all the bad bits. Mario reminded me of Rodney Marsh (who also split our fans' opinions). Marsh scored the greatest goal ever scored at Maine Road against QPR. It wasn't on TV so only those who were there will remember how he played keepy-uppy before despatching an overhead kick into the roof of the net from 12 yards out. Lots of City fans say Marsh was lazy and he probably was. But the whole point of football is moments of magic like that. It was certainly the right time for Mario to leave city...but he will be remembered for decades.

''But as with all rare creatures, our fascination with the mercurial soon enough became smothering...''

Good read.

It is always a mistake to give a youngster a silly nickname, such as SuperMario, and he had difficulty living up to that, and (on balance) his occasional flashes of brilliance weren't worth all the hassle.
Will he fulfill his early promise and potential? Who knows. Will he really become a superstar (like he thinks he is)? Who knows. A move back to Italy is in the best interests of all parties, and I wish him well. Will we miss him? Probably not. Do we still care? Probably not.

Good article. I agree with almost every word too , but arguably, the title could have been 'Damp Squib' as opposed to 'Firework.'
He is a legend, and one of very few who have left us with a possibility of coming back to haunt us.
Despite a few very, very, high points, he is Mancini's failure - and he was always doomed to failure for as long as he was played out of position, and indulged as a child - imho, of course.
