Excellent new article by Ste Tudor (Lucky Toma) on the blog now:

An enjoyable read. Come back to a warm visitors welcome Mario

Very good piece. He may only have been a player of moments, but what moments. It was as though he had to add his own stylish flourish to the mundane: not just a penalty taker but a cool-as-f*ck penalty taker; not just turning the ball into the empty net, but shouldering it in; not blasting the ball home in the 1-6, but potting it with the geometric grace of a snooker player.

I am very sorry he's gone. I loved the mad bugger.

But I have to ask, "why on earth have we sold him"??? By all accounts he was not desperate to leave. And it's not like we couldn't afford to pay him. Surely we needed all 4 strikers available if we are to give it our best chance of retaining the title? Just selling him now seems so, well, stupid.

It is always a mistake to give a youngster a silly nickname, such as SuperMario, and he had difficulty living up to that, and (on balance) his occasional flashes of brilliance weren't worth all the hassle.
Will he fulfill his early promise and potential? Who knows. Will he really become a superstar (like he thinks he is)? Who knows. A move back to Italy is in the best interests of all parties, and I wish him well. Will we miss him? Probably not. Do we still care? Probably not.

When he turned up at City he wanted to become the best footballer in the world. He did precious little in the two and a half years to get more than a yard or two down that road!

I reckon the scrap with RM was the last straw. He was the only one who had any real faith in Mario and he repays him by trying to lay him out?

Absolutely the right decision for Mario and for City, but that's not to say he won't be missed.

I think many that read the newspaper headlines over the last couple of years have a bad impression of him, but anyone associated with or truly knows anything about City, know that he is a decent, funny, kind-hearted human being. Perhaps the problem was that he was too close to Bobby, as he himself described the manager in one word... 'papa'.

So long Mario, and all the very best.

I will miss Mario but I reckon in a few years if he grows up and if mancini is still at city Mario will be back

hated by the rags and media ,! whats not to love ,? good luck mario .

Great read and well penned. I feel really flat that he's gone, and am not 100% sure why. Life will certainly be more sterile now he's gone.

Miss the mad fucker already!
