Favourite car!

The best drivers car I’ve ever owned…

IMG_1958.jpeg

Prior to this it was the Honda CRX I had in 1989… Cornered like is was on rails

SWMBO said I could have the GR86 for a year then we’d go back to a “normal” car… I’m working on keeping it

My mum had one of these in the 90s and loved it.

We’ve had loads of Fiats in our family. Bits of trim might fall off and electronic stuff break here and there but they’re brilliant cars in all the ways that actually matter.

Same can be said for the modern 500 and Pandas. Awesome little cars.

The sort of hey day of small cars - light and economical nippy and a fun drive - before cars got loaded up with C/L. aircon. E/W etc and got F1 sized tyres that needed PAS too

Visibility too. You never realise how shit the visibility is in modern cars until you get in an older one with bigger windows and smaller pillars.

People didn’t need all kinds of parking aids and cameras then as you could actually see out of the windows!

Whilst I see where you are coming from, Ferrari's are the exception and should be Red. I did however have a Blue one after the 308 and all my current cars are Blue.
We were on a golf trip in the South of France a few years ago and decided to have the Sunday in Monaco. We got there by train and the first thing we heard coming out of the station was an almighty roar of a car which turned out to be a Black Ferrari which was absolutely stunning.

We had a mooch up to the Cafe de Paris area and outside the hotel there’s like a circle car park, it was full of high end Ferraris, Porches, Aston Martins, unbelievable cars, the wealth on show was incredible. Jordan (her with the plastic tits) arrived at the hotel just as we were going in the poor man’s casino, the fawning around her was off the scale.

I once read an article where a motoring Mag did a scientific test on current cars to see which had the best and worst forward vision. They concluded the Vauxhall Meriva MK1 was almost as bad as driving a tank just looking through the periscope.

About a year later I got loaned one whilst my car was in for a service. Jesus wept I was amazed how poor it was - to go around a sharpish bend I had to lean into the passengers seat to see around the corner - that A Post took up so much room it was untrue

The cars around there are a petrolheads dream. Never got the attraction with Jordan.

Modern cars in general really. All for safety which is fair enough I suppose - airbags in A and B pillars, side impact protection, curtain airbags, etc. All that stuff takes space.

I maintain that the early 2000s was the high point in vehicle design. Modern enough to be safe and comfortable, but before the current trend of everything being operated by electronics and touch screens came in.

Design was generally more restrained and tasteful as well - look at the early 2000s BMWs compared to today, or the Land Rover Disco 3 compared to the current models.

I have a thing for BMW and Land Rover so am a bit biased but the same applies for basically all makes.
