Favourite ever season.

Just reading the post about the 19 or 22 seasons and what one was the best. For me I couldn’t really enjoy them as much as I would have liked. The stress and pressure of it all was at times off the scale. Don’t get me wrong I loved winning the league both times but even after gundogans last goal I was just relived more than anything. Hard to explain but I didn’t have that europhic wave of emotions I’ve had in the past.

So it got me thinking about my favourite season watching city and for me it was without doubt the 2001/2002 season.

that year I had just signed for a really good non league side and was doing well in pre season and the first few games went like a dream. Then in early September I suffered a really bad injury and was out for a year. I was obviously gutted but this was the first time really that I could watch city most weeks.

Maine Road was in its pomp and the away days were amazing. Our away ends were what I would call proper and it felt like we had a mixture of everyone in those ends and had some great times. Luckily at that time I still had some good connections so could get tickets for games .

I loved that team the likes of Berkovic/Bernabia/Goater/wanchope and Huckerby. We scored so many goals and the football at times was beyond what that division has ever seen. We blew teams away. The likes of burnley, wolves etc who were battling with us couldn’t keep up. For me it was just enjoyable every week bar the odd slip up especially at the start but it was still so much fun in those days.

For me some highlights.

Burnley just after Christmas when we absolutely ruined them.
Ipswich in the cup.
Watford first game of the season.
Norwich at home when down to ten.
Millwall away.
Wolves away.
Newcastle away.
Taking the whole Season I agree completely. Once we’d settled down after losing 4-0 at Coventry IIRC it was brilliant-soon after was the Benarbia masterclass at Sheffield Wednesday -it was brilliant for a generation of City Fans had seen nothing but shit for the most part.

Bernabia was far too good for that league and it’s a shame that he came to us at the back end of his career although that one season was more than most achieve.

At the start of that season we had some really awful results. 4-0 against Wimbledon and West Brom and 4-3 against Coventry. In the main though we were a cut above any one else in that league

Wherever it ranks in people's minds, there was just something special about that season that makes it loved by so many of us. The ship had already been steadied by Joe but it was still often a slog, however that season was like a weight was lifted off our shoulders. We played with a swagger and it was simply fun in a way it hadn't been for much of our recent past. KK was just what we needed at that time, it threw the windows open and let the light and the joy back in. Getting a bit emotional just thinking about it!!
You Sum it up perfectly

Centurions easily. Single greatest side this country has ever seen. We didn't win it until march/April but realistically it was won by December before we even lost a game. Easy to forget the points we actually dropped that year a lot we shouldn't have and var would have sorted. Everton first home game was a crazy red card that never was cost us 2 points, seem to remember being on the end of the at that time usual Anfield joke decisions when we lost 4-3, palace draw that halted our record win streak should have had a player sent off for an assault on kdb then there was an unexplainable draw at Burnley before failing apart in the Derby and once we had it won a draw against Huddersfield because we were still pissed from the celebrations. That season was extremely close to perfection, we were witnessing something nobody had ever seen before and the jesus goal with the last kick to send the away end mental in the basking sun just topped it all off. We've had more exciting races and moments in other seasons but that will take some beating as an entire season
Agree with this as well -We are blessed to support such a fantastic Team

Swindon was the first time I ever saw us win away.
Had a ticket and train booked for Bradford (when we finally won away first time in about three years) but sold them on the coach to Ipswich as I was starting a new job the day before so I could hardly asked for half a day off on my first day!!
Ipswich booked on the special train. Got to Picc as u say storms battered the country so they put coaches on for that 3-0 battering !!

The cup runs were special. Blackpool is legendary as was Huddersfield. Remember the police trying to escort us to the ground at 11-00am and doing a runner into the market to hide for a bit. Still laugh now when we walk that same way to the new ground
That night at Goodison in the league. Service train and match bus . How I got home alive I will never know
My favourite game that season was Plymoth in the 5th round of the cup. An excellent 3 1 win made all the sweeter by hearing the rags had been knocked out at Arsenal ending their season. Day marred however by blues indulging in sickening homophobic violence that modern day blues could never imagine. Felt totally thrilled by the result until the cup draw when found we were at home to Liverpool.

Think that Coventry match was a 4-3 're read iirc
Bernwrbia was superb and scored his 1st goal for us.
City took thousands,as we always did to highfield rd,and Bernarbia must have loved the away support. We were loud..a proper end to end ..typical Keegan match, all out attack.

Sheff wed away was awesome..a priveledge to be there...even if it was sat in the lower seated Hillsborough away end ..where 96 fans had lost their life.felt wierd.

Not sure if that can be counted as head to head..they were miles in front..the robin van piersie effect...
But I take your point.
Winds me up that season. Win the league on goal difference and repay Bobby M with Jack Rodwell & Scott Sinclair. United seemed to be losing every game until he’d inevitably score 2 or 3.

Ah well, we’re champions and the rags are nowhere to be seen. Wouldn’t change it for the world.

Yep 4-3 I was at that, they got a last minute winner.

We got some sort of revenge on them later, although it was only 4-2 the score-line did not in anyway reflect the game. I had mates from Coventry at the game and after they couldn't believe we'd only scored 4.

01/02 was a great season, the cup win away at Ipswich (Berkovich's volley) and we were unlucky not to beat Newcastle, down to 10 men early and only lost 1-0 to a team that would finish in the top Premier League top 4 that season.

02/03 deserves a nod, we finished 9th in our return to the PL and we had some pretty decent results. Beating the rags (Neville's error), and winning at Anfield. Anelka was on another level to anyone I'd previously seen in a City shirt.

I'm throwing 95/96 in there too. Rosler, Walsh and Quinn. Some great wins; 5-2 v Spurs, Gaudino with a great performance as we beat Liverpool, followed by an even better win at title chasing Blackburn, we played some decent stuff just crap at the back. I often wondered what we'd have been like had we kept Horton the following season and he had Kinkladze in the side. I don't think any Keegan team would be able to top that.

Favourite has to be 18/19 though. Clearing up all domestic trophies, imagine during the seasons of Ball, Clark and Pearce season someone said that to you, you'd have had them committed. We should have added the CL too. Sergio missing the penalty in the first leg and of course the handball goal. That team deserved to win it all.
