Favourite opening day matches and memories?

Here's one for the memory bank....

Martin bodenham, what a **** of a ref, no Neil Midgley

I remember the buzz being at this, it being a weekday and being a pup, the old man kept me out way past the bedtime, straight back to the city social club after, would have safeguarding officers all over him today for such things… if I remember righty, think Roy Clarke was still landlord and they had a stripper on in the big room after hours, which I watched intently with my bag of prawn cocktail crisp and bottle of coke, class!

Blackpool at home first game div 2 3-0 and Aa 15minutue rendition of nah nah nah nan a na na city all in the sunshine
Remember that game very well.
As City fans, we planted our flag that day and I think when the players went on their knees to hail us after winning at Wembley they also remembered.
Of course, like the Ipswich 1-0 a couple of years earlier, there was the optimism of going up (from the old Div 3!!!!) But much more than that, it told everyone we stand by our club no matter how bad it is on the pitch.

Leeds at home, 1993/94
Had been working on a gas pipeline site all summer and arrived pre match to buy my Kippax season ticket with cash!
As ever the ticket office was shit as ever and I was still being sorted when the match kicked off.
Within a minute or so, a fairly large Leeds mob turned up on the Maine Road concourse, shortly followed by some of City’s main lads. The touts and grafters also joined in and our lot saw them off fairly sharpish.
That was pretty much the highlight and best entertainment of the day. We were very lucky to scrape a 1-1 draw and after failing to win any of our opening five matches - having only won one of the last seven of the previous campaign - Reid was on his bike, given the heave ho by Swales’ bagman John Maddock. Brian Horton (Who?) came in and the Swales Out campaign began in earnest

Just looked at what year it was 84’ if I’ve looked correctly… that’s frightening
Warm up to full members cup final.
Remember the Sunday People's front page was ' soccer's back, how a young fan got the message' on that Wimbledon game. Didn't realise there was aggro in the ground that day
