Favourite opening day matches and memories?

I've to go for West Ham away when we won 2-0 under Sven. It felt like something special was starting to take shape that summer. Having a new manager, New players and a new owner. I was buzzing going to Upton Park that day and turned out to be a great day out we were magnificent on the day. We all had rough seasons under Pearce and the Sven era was a breath of fresh air.

I remember thinking Bianchi was going to turn out to be the dogs bollocks...:)
I seem to remember Bojinov doing his cruciate in that game?

Some good shouts on here. Blackpool at home, yes, showed that we as fans weren't deserting the club and great atmosphere that day. Think the Watford one under Keegan was that late Sunday kick off (ITV Digital?) with loads of fans absolutely leathered from drinking all day.

Further back I was convinced the Trevor Francis debut at Stoke was the opening day but it wasn't. Cracking day though and felt like the start of something new!

I think he done his cruciate at The Etihad very early in the season I think it was against the Rags? I think he started that game and went off.
Yep and the opening game of the following season he snapped his Achilles right in front of us in the warm up at Villa just as Shinawatra went on the run; we got thrashed and Villa singing “where’s your money gone”. Not a favourite opening game but I look back with a smirk now…

Southampton at Etihad, opening day 2012. It was the first league match after Agueroooo so there was a definite buzz. And kinda mini-repeat - 2-1 down to a team we were expected to dispatch, only to claw our way back to win 3-2.
