Watching that trailer and particularly the comments at 2':10'' onwards about being welcomed and being of use to the community. Pity we didnt have that sort of unreserved welcome in Moston.

Now, having seen the trailer, I can't help wondering whether choosing one of the brownfield sites in the Moston area (that keep being mentioned by the complainers) might have changed their minds/attitudes?

My God i think someone has got it ...

Did the council offer them a brownfield site?

Thought that was the case, so the FCUM poster still hasn't really got it has he lol. Shame they didn't get offered the old Booth Hall hospital site, I think it would've been an ideal site and there was more than enough space.

Then again, I still think 10 Acre Lane was the answer.....when I think about how much council cash has been frittered on all this since the TAL decision was reversed, it makes my blood boil.

What the FCUM fan was saying was about the brown field sites that objectors had suggested, rather than the council.
Agree TAL was the right choice.
Booth Hall and the North Manchester High School for Girls sites would have been ideal too - of course the council can flog those sites for housing, which they can't do on the Ronald Johnson Playing Fields (but can allow a football stadium to be built!)

The most ideal site would be the site of Monsall Hospital, but the soil is contaminated and cant be touched for (I think) 25 years after the hospital was closed. Also the council don't own the site, but the NHS (or whoever owns hospital sites) own it and imagine it will be worth quite a lot with all the other buildings going up around it.
On St Mary's Road, next to the railway bridge and opposite the petrol station (near the Dean Brook) used to be a school, now an over grown jungle. That is big enough to have a stadium there too and a lot nearer the Metrolink / Oldham Road. Now there is a patch of land that needs improving!

Re: FC United - Judicial Review date announced! (pg 57)

But if the council didn't offer the sites FC couldn't have chosen them could they?

Think I know that derelict ground near the railway that you mentioned. Isn't it the place where the plaques off the Boggart Hole Clough war memorial were dumped? If it's the place I'm thinking of I agree it'd be nice to see the land put to good use...

Agree, it wasn't for FCUM to chose, it's just wishful thinking on behalf of a fair few local people that maybe FCUM would suggest to the council that a brownfield site be chosen instead of a greenfield site. Of course, that may have happened, I don't know, no one has said either way if brownfield sites were ever looked at.
What we do know is Wythenshawe Park, Hough End and Moston were looked at.

-- Fri Dec 07, 2012 6:21 pm --

The council did not offer a brownfield site because that would to have been bought so it's much easier to give away public land for £1

Great name Hugh!
