Because you enter the competition and agree to abide by the competition rules - one of which states you will be told when to play, not make your own mind up at a time and date convenient to your club / fans.Why not?

My reading of their statement is that they tried to change the date a "televised" game was on. Which understandably there us less flexibility on.

Don't believe that was the case. They chose to have the game televised. Their alternative was to have the game televised on a different day. FC United has been informed by the FA that our home FA Cup First Round Proper tie against Chesterfield FC has been selected to be broadcast live television and that it will take place on Monday 9 November 2015 with a kick off time of 7.45pm.
When we were informed of this, the FC United board contacted the FA to inform them of our views.......

I'm struggling to understand what bit you are not clear about. You said further up that ''they (assume you meant FCUM) chose to have the game televised'' but didn't want it on a Monday. Can you expand please.Statement doesnt make it clear they had no say in the matter. It makes it clear the FA wouldnt consider arranging a televised game on another day.
Fairly simple. Say we don't our game to be televised so we can play it on Saturday afternoon like our members want.I'm struggling to understand what bit you are not clear about.
