Of course critics could argue City were given a “free stadium” (their phrase, not mine) and the council raided their savings to contribute to it too - the difference being it was an investment from Manchester City council - the money invested has been repaid and will continue to be added to each year, indeed every time there is an event on at the ground City are giving back to residents. Manchester residents and the town hall have benefited from this investment and will continue to as long as the Blues play there.
On the other hand there has been absolutely no benefit to residents from council tax payers money given to this alleged / so called community club. From day one it’s just been take, take, take. The only “community group” to benefit have been themselves.
Manchester City was not given a free Stadium far from it, Maine Road and the land were used and City had to pay for all the new seats and stands, MCC don't own the stadium as well, I think it was part of Sport England and Money from the commonwealth committee the government setup.
FCUM is hated by the people of Moston and will never be a community club. It was never set up to be one.
