FC United Thread

On the subject of bucket shaking the missing matches fundraiser got discussed (despite having 5 home games in the space of a month) coming up at a time when most people’s finances are stretched the board discussed whether or not they should look to increase the latest bucket target from £20,000 to £30,000. In the end they agreed it was important that their fans knew just how fucked they are so they’d be more motivated to give them even more money the current fantastic £18,000 donated is just not good enough

They managed a draw yesterday.

If anyone was thinking of applying for a job as a finance assistant I’d think against it. Here’s the latest board reports, if the game was to be called off on Boxing Day (not unusual in non league circles) they can’t make Decembers payroll. It also says the staff morale is low.

Maybe I’m slow and everyone else figured this out years ago, but it’s dawned on me this last few months that they’re basically a (barely surviving) social club with a football team attached. To be honest, most of the members would probably be fine if all they did was just drink together, slag off City and talk about the good days at big ‘nited.

A few points about the job description.

1. (The club are) a not for profit community football club.
Never a truer word written. Maybe they should actually try and become a “for profit” company and start paying the debts off.

2. “Dedicated to inclusivity”.
As long as you are a rag of either the mini me’s or Big Red then you are included.

3. Create an environment where everyone feels valued.
See number 2.

4. Convenient access to the city centre via excellent public transport.
The author has clearly never been on the 89 or 112 buses from town to Middleton via Moston!

5. I’m surprised the job spec of tasks to be performed made no reference to have the ability to be able to stand for long periods whilst shaking a bucket.
