FC United Thread

The begging bowl is out already. Their website this morning.

2016/17 FC United season tickets now on sale.

This means that once again this year, we will be setting the minimum price of an adult season ticket at a very affordable £100. However, in order to meet our financial targets, we would greatly appreciate it if supporters, who can afford it, add a donation to the minimum season ticket price.

We are suggesting an average donation of £60, on top of the £100 ticket price so that we raise at least £160 from each ticket sold. This is equivalent to an entry price of less than £8 per match, because there will be 21 home league matches in the Vanarama National League North next season. Supporters who are able to pay more than £160 are encouraged to do so as every extra pound we raise is invested in the club and helps us to plan financially for the season ahead.

Idiots. You can't suggest an average donation of £60. The fact is they want an extra £60 per season ticket. The average of £119 and £1 is £60, so their faithful followers should all give just £1 extra and hope some other gullible fool stumps up £119 to keep the averages up. The fact is, they're living beyond their means, and as the notice points out, without a FA Cup run, they will be stuffed next season. But if they do get through the preliminary rounds, they can at least guarantee their friends at the BBC will honour them with live televised football for the subsequent rounds. Or at a minimum they will be competing with FC Salford United of City for those games. Maybe David Conn could arrange for a fly on the wall documentary of them.

The fact is that it's become close to impossible to run a club at that level without external backing a la Ebbsfleet or AFC Fylde. The idea of fan ownership is outdated as success in modern football - at any level regardless of semi-pro or fully professional - ultimately depends on how much money you're willing to put forward. Obviously Leicester winning the Prem is an anomaly, but if you look at the current league tables at the top 7 levels of football, 90% of the club getting promoted this year will have had bigger budgets than most in their league.

Here's a bit of info regarding loans , grants etc received by FC Utd

Money FC have received. £1,250,000 from an allegedly cash-strapped Manchester City Council plus £147,000 from the council's children's services budget. On top of that Sport England have coughed up £918,000, the Football Foundation £650,000 , Manchester College £450,000 and the Communities Dept £300,000. Total £3,715,000

Robbing bastards, aswell.

£1,250,000 in funding be it grants or loans???????
Richard Lease and co should be sacked. How could supposedly intelligent leaders running the City be so blind to offering such large amounts of cash - not to mention giving away a large area of public land - to a company with no track record or assets?
There should be a full enquiry into the council's dealings with this issue. Heads should roll

As has always been the case since the game was invented.

Bloody Hell who's left

Statement to members from the FC United Board

The club has been notified that with effect from 5pm on Friday 6 May 2016 board members Mike Sherrard, Kate Ramsey and Des Lynch will resign from the board of FC United of Manchester.

In a joint statement, they said:

"It is with great regret that we have come to this decision. At the April board meeting, we all agreed to continue in post until an extraordinary general meeting could be held. We did so as we recognised the need for an EGM to form a new board, but wanted to continue supporting club staff in managing the day-to-day running of the club until that time.

“Since that meeting, however, we have witnessed a continuation and indeed escalation of the ongoing campaign to remove individual board members. The actions of some members, and non-members, fly in the face of the democratic principles our club is founded on and have no place in civilised society. We deplore the use of physical and cyber intimidation and have done our best to withstand it for many months, but enough is enough.

“The fact that staff members and volunteers alike have at various times come to fear for their own safety, and for the safety of their families, is appalling.

“In addition, the repeated leaking of confidential board discussions to those who are waging a campaign of hatred means that it has become impossible for the current board to operate in any meaningful way.

“We sincerely hope that the co-owners of this wonderful club find a way to overcome the challenges it faces, and that FC United continues to gain experience and so grow the movement of supporter ownership we all believe in."

Regards
The FC United of Manchester Board
