How much have they been given from the council ?

Our theatre group based on Moston Lane have never been given a penny. We were formed in 1919 and have donated our profits to the Lord Mayors fund, over £200k over the years. Our constitution stated we had to donate any profit from a show. Now we are skint and council struggling to help.

If only we had known......
St Dunstans opposite Liily Lane primary school?

Yes, it's ring-fenced for sport. A stipulation that was part of the original deal further to which Sport England provided grant funding to allow the stadium to be built for the Commonwealth Games and then leased to us afterwards.
And if City bought the stadium, as they originally were thinking following he takeover, the money would go to Sport England and not remain in Manchester, which is why it is still council owned

Change the name to something like United Manchester Thespians. The money will come rolling in with no strings attached.

The money given to the mini-Rags and denied genuine community groups is an example of why local government is often perceived as corrupt.

Someone mentioned Abbey Hey FC. They with Maine Road and doubtless several others, are more worthy recipients of Council aid than the mini-Rags will ever be as they are genuine grass-roots football clubs, not someone's bent fantasy project.

I don't know how Manchester City Council can justify the money spent (wasted) on the mini-Rags. I'd love to know the full SP. It's what investigative journalists used to be for.

No they're our friends.

We're based on Moston Lane. Simpson Memorial Hall. We used to perform at the Palace.
Is that the building that is next to Moston library ??
I used to spend many a Saturday morning at Moston library with all 3 of my daughters, helping them choose
books and helping them learn to read.

During the campaign to build / not build Pallet Park there was the MAD theatre group who were very vocal in their support of the stadium. The club needed the support of such community groups and used that to the full. More than once I told the group they were being used by the club and once permission is given you won’t see them knocking on your door.
Ever since the ground has been built I’ve not seen any collaboration between MAD and the Bucketeers (happy to be corrected) and a quick google of MAD sees them still based at Simpson Memorial Hall.

I've written this on here before, but it's something I was told around 15 years ago, at the time when FC were in full 'nauseating and entitled badgering of the Council' mode with regard to help for their own stadium. The source was someone in an important role in the Council apparatus.

MCC has always been rather sore that Manchester United bears the city's name and has become an institution with huge worldwide fame, but the location of the ground limits the Council's benefit from that. It was hoped in the 1990s with the construction of the Commonwealth Stadium (previously mooted as a potential Olympic or national stadium) that they could build an 80,000 facility and attract the real MUFC to use it at least some of the time, but that didn't work out.

Unfortunately, some within MCC saw FC as a possible way to derive more benefit from a connection with a United theme. It beggars belief to me that these tinpot tribute-act shitehawks have been given the level of support they've received, but that's the original reasoning from within MCC.

I believe that Pat Karney was a prime mover in the idea of assisting the vanity project, with heady aspirations back then that they could get into the Football League and maybe even reach the Championship. Comically delusional, but it was believed. The execrable David Conn deserves a mention, too, for his patronage did a great deal to legitimise these grasping and inconsequential nobodies.

Pat Karney went against the people and his own people

Coun Pat Karney, speaking on behalf of the Labour group in Manchester, said: “I have spoken to Henry to tell him that this is the wrong decision both for himself and for the people of Moston.

“The council has gone out of its way to listen to all the views on both sides of the debate on FC United.

The Salford Rag Socks are getting 85k because their fa cup game against us is being televised.
Imagine if it had been the Moston Rag Socks ! The directors would be spending it already, Christmas in Barbados with 5k left over to restock the directors bar.
I bet they are gutted they are so shit.

firstly they would put out a statement and a banner up at the next game stating their intentions of not appearing live on TV out of principle.
The media lap it up with article after article describing the Bucketeers as still having a soul and how football would be much better if all clubs followed this club that is a bastion of tradition. And then after all the posturing, shouting and finger pointing, they will back down - but making it clear they are not happy - and take the cash.
