Fees.

Again, everything is open to discussion...I guess I'm trying to figure out how anyone knows a signing is a bargain at the time of the signing or how someone knows we're overspending...based on what?...we've all seen players play countless times so we feel we have valid opinions on who should start or what position is best or what formation fits who...we all have players we like and don't like but that has no bearing on how such players are valued on the transfer market by clubs...for me, again jmo, worrying about what City are willing to pay for someone or asking for someone holds minimal relevance...the same way you believe the statement "its not your money" to be lazy I find those continually offering up "money better spent" to be awfully presumptuous...just sayin'...
I don’t think anybody is saying they know. They are saying they have an opinion which will be based on different criteria depending on the poster such as comparing the price of similar players. If posters can’t have an opinion on that then what’s the point of debating say whether a player could effectively cover at DM if Rodri was out?

The only difference is that, when it’s the price of a transfer, this strange personalisation of the topic, that it’s not the posters money, gets brought up like that in some way nullifies a poster’s opinion. It’s irrelevant.

If someone believes that City know best in all matters and, let’s face it, most of the time they do, then there is no need for them to join the debate as their only contribution is to tell other posters they shouldn’t care…it’s not up to them to say that…just move on to a topic they themselves care about.

At the end of the day the vast majority of posters just want what is best for the club and I don’t see why this topic is any different from any other.

Ironically all Bill has done is create another thread on a topic which irritates him which has already been covered elsewhere.

I should really start a thread about how I don’t like City playing in blue shorts but I shouldn’t care because after all…they aren’t my shorts.

Just curious...is it really about the amount involved in the transaction or just a way of expanding upon how much someone likes or dislikes a player...

Depends on the poster. A little of both I’d guess. Quite a lot of the time you will see I’d take player X at 35 mill but not 80 mill which can generate a comment like Bill has made. However, all the poster is usually saying here is that they are aware City have a budget and 35 leaves us with a better chance of getting an additional player elsewhere whereas 80 may remove that option.

it’s true that the poster can’t know what City can afford to spend but, to take an extreme hypothetical example, if City decided to spend 300 million on Phillips I don’t think there are that many posters who would not have an opinion about it because it wasn’t their money!

If City offered 300 mil for anyone we'd all be demanding a multitude of sanity checks, even Bill, lol...
