Though seeing figures quoted at 729mph, it depends on when he deployed his chute as to if he broke the speed of sound.
729 mph is the speed of sound at an altitude of about 10,000-15,000ft. So it depends on if he was travelling at that speed, at that altitude. It's a bit more complicated than just achieving a certain speed before he opened his chute.
The speed of sound at sea level is 761 mph, I believe. So it seems he hasn't achieved what we would call 'mach-1'.
In that case, he's definitely done it. Thought it was a bit closer than that. They'll probably still need to double-check things though before confirming things like top speeds.
