What he has said is so preposterous, so unsubstantiated that I am certain that he will retract what he has said in the next couple of days.

What are the odds that this will be reported along the lines of his magnanimity rather than a 'humiliating climbdown', which is how it would be reported if Mancini or Benitez had uttered such a thing and then resiled from it?

Unlike others on here, I believe him to be the greatest manager of all time, and that should quite rightly buy him a degree of credit with the press, but it is astonishing how little he is ridiculed in the media for these absurd statements that he is making with increasing frequency.

Not in my lifetime; all matches should finish at the same time and now this, would all be met by contempt and derision if stated by any other manager. He really has brought the press to heel and as much as I dislike him, it is impossible not to feel a twinge of admiration for that. He is a canny fucker and in footballing terms, the ultimate survivor.
