So here's a picture of our average positions against Huddersfield, just like I've posted in the Jesus thread.
Like Jesus, Fernandinho is playing very deep.

It looks like Fernandinho is playing the role of an auxilliary centre back, maybe not too dissimilar to Mascherano at Barcelona or Martinez at Bayern. I'm not sure it's for any other reason than to give Kompany a little extra defensive support behind the midfield, and in Pep's eyes if a midfielder can play that role then all the better. So his attacking game would have been even more restricted than usual.

Although when out of possession, it looked like from where I was sitting that he pushed forward into the midfield and pressed alongside Gundogan.

I actually think this role would be perfect for future games for Fernandinho IF (as in, if) he ever starts to show signs of ageing during the season.

Sloppy 1st 20, and clearly the most lackluster on the ball after Kompany. But did a lot of defensive work that without we would have had some major problems. Good game overall.

Pep said pre-match he has minor muscle injury as do a few of then, having to push through it this week i guess

As with sergio and dave his demise is premature

Why he didn’t come of last week after an hour I don’t know he needs to be managed or he ain’t going to last the season or worse cost us goals.

Poor today,he looked well off the pace and his radar was shocking.

He hasnt been great in any of our 4 games really, slightly concerning the long season/summer is still a hangover.

Four games in of course, but he wasn't good again today. Too many giveaways and a yard off the pace physically. At this rate I wouldn't be terribly surprised to see us try to buy in January.

Looking his age unfortunately. Can't understand why we did not sign DM. Need to buy in January I think

Sounds obvious but when he has a good game, the team plays well in general. When
he has a poor game like in the last two games he is a huge problem and the team looks very average.
Was okayish in the Chelsea,Arsenal & Huddersfield* games and we were alright.
Still early days but he is starting to look and play his age and with Pep already bringing up 'fatigue' issues with him,we have to manage his games well at least till January when we'll have to bring in cover.
