This whole thing of playing he regularly at CB has been a failed experiment and a poor attempt at patching up a bodged window that failed to replace Vinny. It has left us lacking something in midfield to boot. Good enough to play there in an emergency for half a game or even the odd full one, but only as an emergency.

He is another who of course is past his best and you have to wonder at what point we need to move on from him.

How about we fuck Gundogan off right now & sign a replacement who is actually good enough then any game where Gundogan would have played, if he was still around, we play Fernandinho, who, even with no legs, would still give him a 2 yard start & beat him over 6 or do 5 more shuttle runs if needed, then at the end of the season, Fern leaves ?

He is unfortunately going to take a foreign spot in next seasons squad. I was hoping he would make way for another midfield signing. Since we all know Gundogan isn't going to be sold anyway.

Giving him an extension was a mistake.

Must admit I am struggling to see where Gundogan can fit in long term.
As you say Fern would almost certainly remain an asset for at least one more season if when he played he was played in his correct position.

His legs may have 'gone' but they are still better than our other two options.
Nah! People just pretend he is. Gundogan has been a better 6 for over a season and a half now and Dihno has only gotten older. And it shows.

He should go. Join the coaching staff.

Gundogan is faster than Dihno. I know lots of you don't like him. But he has been better than Dihno at the 6 for over a season and a half now.

He's better than Dinho in one direction only, sometimes.

But absolutely not faster.

Dihno is really slow now. I'd bet money Gundo easily beats him in a 40 yard dash

He actually isn't that slow, he's just become one of our more one paced players rater than extra quick. He actually did a fullback for pace on the right wing a couple of weeks ago, when briefly allowed to play midfield, but like Stones & Bernardo, has been sat on his arse for quite some time.

Dinho has always been one where his football game depends on athleticism, and with this as the age goes up the decline usually is massive and sudden, which we're seeing with him this year. He's a good veteran presence in the changing room but if we have to rely on him next year, especially on big games, Tiki will have failed the club.

Legs are shot. Lowkey one of the best PL players over the last few years. Great signing and great servant. Signing him to an extension was a mistake but it is only for one more season. He will take more of a leadership from the bench role and in the dressing room role this upcoming season I believe then transition into coaching hopefully. Taking up a foreign spot will hurt though when it can go to someone who can help us more. Amazing player in his day though. Absolutely amazing.

I doubt Pep and the City hierarchy in general were blind to his deterioration when he was offered an extra year, but the fact he is an experienced head, knows the club and the system inside out and can act as cover for multiple positions was probably enough to get him one more year

With everyone fit and on form we hopefully won’t see him start too many consequential games next season

He also might be very good for the dressing room.
