Just watched the video on the OS ... have one query: is sharon still club photographer? no sign of her here, some other lass on snapping duty.

No mate, madrid came in with an offer and their dark room is air conditioned. Heard we will go for someone younger with better vision.

I haven't even posted yet on this topic. The money DOES matter. If we are going to spunk 34 million on a guy we have the right to question it. If the season ticket prices go up again guess why.

I said this an hour back but it seems no-one noticed.

The more reliable reports that I've seen quote the figure as £22m, not 34. The £34m figure seems to be journos adding on the total salary figure for the contract also, trying to create the exact same unrest amongst the fans and hatred amongst non-fans that people such as yourself are falling for hook, line and sinker. It's exactly the same as the papers that claim Tevez cost £49m.
Exactly & the thick city fans fall for it every time, just ignore what the press say is the figure we paid, they have no idea & are trying to damage us.

I too think if the reported 34m is correct then it's far too much money we've paid. I'd like to know what Shakhtar paid for him? That's my opinion and it doesn't matter that it's not my money. Also because I and other people have the opinion we have paid too it much does not also mean we are being negative, pessimistic or whatever. We'll all still be supporting the club just as much as ever before and it's just an opinion on a message board.

6.8 million euros.

Cheers Ray. That's a nice tidy profit for an 8 year investment.

tbh
i don't know what to believe
i have a (un)healthy sceptism regarding most of the media circus surrounding football clubs, particularly throughout the transfer window

You have not answered my question (tut tut) I will retort. So what if it is 40 mill euro signing on fee?(up front)
being trained in the sciences i've always had difficulty answering a hypothetical question asked as a stated fact
i thought my post may have hinted that i have no idea how much he cost and so it would be ridiculous of me to have a firm position based on no evidence

Hmmmm so your thinking is the same as mine.

Anyway as blues we re group. Thinking about it we blew 32 mill on Robbie (and I fucking loved that signing(on the day))

Anyway mid life crisis over.

Shakhtar issued a statement yesterday confirming that the deal will be worth a staggering €40 million (about £34 million) to them, although it will cost City about £30 million as a result of the Brazil midfielder’s willingness to forgo a bonus due under the terms of his contract.

No worries. It proves with an excellent scouting network and patience there are bargains to be found. It was frustrating that when we were strapped for cash we were very lazy in not doing that and nearly paid the price. 30m is a bit steep, but he has bags of Champions League experience and a Uefa Cup winner medal.

says 22 million as transfer fee on Wikipedia. :)

Yes, that might be because I am one of the users who maintain the City pages on Wikipedia ;)

I still think that £22m is the more likely figure.

I am hoping like Navas it's 20m plus a load of clauses to make it 30m.

Even without the blue-tinted specs, that sounds high. Most places say either £3.5m or £5m in clauses from a base of £20m, which wouldn't come close to £30m. Many places say £17m + £3.5m, which is the figures I believe are true for Navas. Heck, I even saw one place say £15m + clauses earlier. But Navas' deal won't even get remotely close to £30m, even if he triggers every clause on offer.

Shakhtar paid £7m, but that was all of 8 years ago - almost a decade ago, when he was still a teenager. In that respect, £34m isn't too far out of line.
